A comparison of various styles of Teva sandals...
By Customer Review on Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2016
My favorite Columbia sandals are almost 10 years old, starting to wear out, and have sadly been discontinued. So I have been on a mission to find a pair of new sandals that I like just as well, and I finally discovered the Teva Tirra. I have high arches and an ongoing issue with plantar fascitis, so finding comfortable sandals with enough arch support is tough. I have a pair of very expensive Chacos that have an awesome arch, but the diamond cut pattern of the foot bed really irritates the sole of my foot and I can't wear them for an entire day. I ended up ordering several different styles of Tevas (as well as numerous other brands), and returned all but one pair. I ordered the Teva Tirra, Tirra Leather, Terra Fl, Verra, Hurricane, and Numa. The Tirra Leather has an awesome foot bed and great arch support, but runs a 1/2 size smaller than the rubber/nylon version, and the inside of the straps aren't cushioned nearly as well, which was the deal breaker for me. The Terra Fl has a slightly lower arch than the Tirra, and after 15-20 minutes of walking around inside my house, my foot with the plantar fascitis was bothering me. The strap cushion on those was equally good though. The Verra is super cute and the straps are nicely cushioned, but the arch is almost non-existent. The Hurricane has scratchy straps and a minimal arch. The Numa had a minimal arch as well. When I initially ordered the Tirra sandals, I ordered a size 8.5, which is my typical shoe size. They seemed like they fit well at first, but the front of the ankle strap hurt after wearing them for about 15 minutes inside my house. On a hunch, I decided to order another pair a half size smaller. They're an absolutely perfect fit, and the ankle strap doesn't come up as high and isn't irritating at all like it was on a pair a 1/2 size larger. I wore the sandals yesterday to our local amusement park and walked/stood for 11 hours straight. They definitely passed my test for comfort and support. They're not super fashionable, but definitely prettier than some other types of sport sandals. I bought the Simply Taupe color, which is neutral and goes with most of my summer clothes. I'll probably eventually buy a black pair as well, but I'm waiting for them to go on sale. We're taking a 10 day trip to Disney World later this year, and these will definitely be my main shoe for wearing while we're there.

Overall good, but requires socks for comfort
By Hannah on Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2023
This wasn't an awful purchase. I like the color, the fit. They are comfortable on my feet and provide good support for my arch while fitting my wide feet well. My size is normally 8.5 wide so I selected 8.5 and the sizing seems appropriate. It is perhaps a tiny bit too long and I may have sized down if I had the opportunity to try on multiple sizes at once, but for shoes bought over the internet, sight unseen, I can't really complain about the size. The straps enable a nice, snug fit around my wide feet though I can see how it may be a bit too loose for people with narrow feet. I have one problem: the ankle strap causes blisters on the back of my ankle when worn without socks. I got these specifically for a supportive shoe that I could wear in summer without the need for socks, but I can't really use them beyond short trips (around 30 minutes of walking). I was hoping that they would break in over time, but so far they have not. This was not a problem with my last pair of similar sandals from another brand, which were comfortable for sockless wear right from the get-go. While there are a few differences at play that might explain why my older shoes were more comfortable (including a softer, more fabric-like material and a lower ankle strap which wraps around the heel more then the ankle) I think this issue is more to do with the construction of the shoe. My old ones actually had an ankle strap that was separate from the rest and attached with a piece of elastic. I think this construction enables the strap to move *with* my foot instead of against it as I walk. In contrast, this shoe is made all in one piece which results in an inflexible back strap which wears against the ankle. Some may feel that this provides more support, but I personally don't notice any difference and the blisters are enough to outweigh any potential benefit in that area. It is now past my return window, so I guess I'm just going to deal. I'll wear them for short trips out of my apartment, but for anything longer then that I'm going to need to figure out something to protect my ankle, either socks, bandaids or something else. In any case, I think I will steer clear of this brand (or at least, this model) in the future unless there is a design change. At least I think I've learned something to bare in mind when buying sandals again.
