The most comfortable Hey Dude I've worn. Very prone to inner debri
By Nanami on Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2024
So I'm normally a DC Villains guy, and am very used to wearing flats like these. At least half a decade of experience if not more. I thought I'd mix it up after my last pair of shoes got a hole in them (after YEARS of use). I'd heard good things about Hey Dude, so I went to a store to try on shoes and fell in love with the feel of Wally Sox. I didn't like any of the in store colors so I elected to order online, and here we are.I've been daily driving these shoes with socks at work and without socks for quick casual stuff, just like I did with any pair of DC Villains. I'm not 100% yet on whats better between the two comfort wise, because off the top of my head I know each has a different strength. Like, if I had to guess, HD Wally Sox probably wins on general comfort, but DC Villains is probably the most comfortable while retaining decent levels of structure/protection. And those things are important to me. I just want the most comfortable shoe I can get that also cares about protection.HD Wally Sox were the best I felt I could get in that regards. The other HD shoes I tried on all felt either way to thick or paper thin. And so, what is the result of a week+ of this shoe compared to my years of DC Villains? With an open mind:Again, comfort wise, cannot complain. They feel great, with socks. Without socks, its not as good. It definitely feels like this is supposed to be worn with socks but still doable without, I'll probably get used to the feeling so no real points off here.Protection? Negative points. These shoes let random stuff get in them and under your feet ALL THE TIME. DC Villains seldom did it to the point I'd never mention it in a review. With socks on you can't tell because its usually small debri, but as soon as you go socks-free, you instantly feel all the crud thats built up. Idk if its the holes in the foam inserts or what, but man it happens so much. And the worst part? It can be hard to get these little specs of dirt out because they usually get melded into the foam material. This is a pain in my butt that I never had with other varieties of slip-on flats, of any brand. HUGE NEGATIVE.Structure? These are advertised as being bendable. Its a selling point. I personally don't like that and like a bit of structure for when I want to get a kink out of my toe (bending it against the sole is impossible here because it just flexes with you). Or, most importantly, when I'm driving and would like to press my gas pedal without feeling my shoe bend to much. Luckily, this shoe doesn't outright fail on the gas pedal test (actually passes), but still aside from that pretty non existent structure. But again, that's a selling point so I can't take points off here. It at least has the minimum amount of structure to get you through stuff like driving well enough.6.5/10. Passable and just above average, wouldn't really go out of my way for these. I'll keep daily driving these for now but as soon as I get tired of pulling little specs of debri out of the foam I'll be switching back to DC.The .5 are bonus points just for style. I do like these designs and might be convinced to wear these on certain occasions but probably never again as a daily shoe.
