Network speed increased significantly
By Lucy Marzec on Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2022
As we added wifi devices we didnt think much about upgrading our ~6 year old router. We noticed a great price deal on this nighthawk router so we figured we should give it a try. Our ring camera system works way better with clearer video, and we can use our wifi devices both inside and outside our house which wasn't possible in the past. I would say the signal range increased by approxately 10 yards. Transfer speed also increased on our slow 50Mbs. There were times when speed test sould barely show 20 Mbs. I guess the old router could not keep up with the number of devices hooked up. Now were are solid around 50Mbs and that is what we like.

Completely bricked within 6 months
By Jeff Benson on Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2020
I was hesitant on buying a refurbished router even though I knew this netgear product was what I wanted. I fixed all of my wifi coverage issues within my house and I was really happy with it. Within 6 months while I was on vacation, I got an alert that some of my home automation products went offline. At that point, I was able to determine that I had power at my house but my router had stopped responding. I had the ability to restart the router remotely to no avail. A few weeks later when I came home, I found the router to be flashing the LEDs in a strange sequence, and later determined the router was stuck in a boot loop. I tried to reflash the firmware with tftp and nmrpflash. Neither worked. I called netgear support, and they were obviously not aware of this strange LED sequence. After a few questions, they told me I would need to renew my netgear support at a cost of $50. Had I decided to spend that money, if they would have determined that it was a hardware issue (which it most likely is since none of the reflash tools work or even get connected to the router) then they wouldn't be able to do anything for me anyways, since it was refurbished with a 90 day warranty. Extremely disappointed in Netgear and Amazon for selling a product with such a short warranty. I guess it's my fault and lesson learned for buying refurbished, but for all I know this was the same reason it got returned in the first place. Never again will I buy refurbished, and hopefully can find a replacement without Netgear's name on it.
