Good little transmitter!
By a reader from Los Angeles on Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2019
I bought a big TCL UHD TV and a great pair of Sony noise-cancelling headphones 6 months ago, but needed a transmitter to use them together. It's only necessary in the summer when I have A/C and/or various fans running with windows open and cannot hear the TV over ambient noise. I did extensive research, but went back and forth on how much I wanted to spend, how much I needed for 1 set of headphones. This little unit was perfect. The charge lasts for about 12 hours (of use) before it needs at least 2 hours to charge up via USB plug or computer and it cannot be simultaneously charged and used. But that is about how much constant use I get out of the headphones charge, so if you keep track of the charge time, you can charge both overnight. The only problem I had was re-connecting the pair. The instructions said to turn on the unit, then turn on the headphones to search for each other. Perhaps that's just the first time, because every other time when the Avantree claimed to be connected, there's no way to tell what it connected to: the computer, my phone...because it wasn't the headphones. I've found it's easiest to connect the headphones to the transmitter by doing this: turn off my phone's bluetooth, turn on the headphones, then turn on Avantree to have them sync immediately, then turn on the phone bluetooth when I need it. Sound has never lagged, cut out or gotten static-y, even as I move through the house. I have only used it as a transmitter. There are several ways to attach it to the TV; I went with the optic input and have no regrets. I highly recommend this.

Item is useless if you use it with a TV
By Anna on Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2020
I purchased this to set up two headsets using the optical out. Obviously, everything was connected and hidden behind the TV so it wasn't an eyesore. I connected it to USB power so it always had power at all times. It worked fine once it was set up but the next day it didn't work. I had to manually get behind the tv and turn it on again. I did this for three days and is was getting very annoying. On the off hand chance maybe something was set up wrong, I contacted the company to ask about this issue and how I could set it so that it always stayed on and ready to use. After a week of back and forth emails they finally said that the device worked correctly, but that it was not designed to stay on. Essentially, the design of the device was poorly conceived. Their first suggestion was to return it (which I did) and buy their more expensive unit (which I didn't). Their customer service was poor at best. I purchased another similar device which was actually less expensive than this one and it worked perfectly. It doesn't shut off in between uses. If you don't want to have to get up to turn it on every time you want to use the device, then steer clear of getting this one.
