Won't Work For Everyone
By Odis P. Lance on Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2019
I have been installing our TVs and electronics in our homes for 25+ years. I'm very gifted, experienced and knowledgable in this area. This is my experience with the Beam. I bought it to install a Sonos Beam on 40" Samsung TV higher end model that is about 4 years old. This TV is mounted with a Sanus TV fully articulating mount above a fire place in the court yard outside our master bedroom by a hot tub. For starters Sanus claim of an only 15 minute install. As a rule of thumb I never pay attention to the "only x install time". This mount is no different. Took me over an hour. The included screws for the back of the TV where either too short or far too long. I had to look into my left over screws from numerous other TV mounts that I have installed in the past. I was looking for some spacers so that I could use the screws that were about 1/2 too long. That as you can image added 15-20 minutes to the install time alone! I finally located some screws that were of the right length and decided not to use the include screws with some of my own provided spacers. The actual assembly and installation of the mount is very easy and straightforward the instructions could not be more on point. About 1.5 hours later everything was installed and I hooked all wires up and had my TV back on the wall. Since the TV is tilted down towards the hot tub the sound bar is acoustically correct to be tilted along with the TV tilt. Problem with this is it looks odd! In the words of my wife, "That is a funky looking sound bar". Whatever, I was happy and got into the hot tub to enjoy my work. Using the Amazon Fire TV remote I pressed power. Nothing happened. Only the Beam came on. I get out of the hot tub and inspect my work. I realize that I had forgot to plug the power cord to the back of the TV. I dry off, climb up to the TV and get ready to plug it in. That is when I realize "one size fits all" doesn't apply. THE MOUNT FOR THE BEAM IS COVERING SPOT WHERE THE POWER CORD PLUGS IN! So needless to say I gave up. Thinking about what could be done. I could add more spacers and fit the cord under the space that is left between the TV and sound bar mount. I could cut the mount to expose the power receptical. I could mount the sound bar mount to the top part of the TV. I could just return it all. Beam and mount. I really don't feel like drilling holes in the natural stone outside fire place to use Sonos Beam mount.
