This is FUN! Loving to watch these little sprouts SPROUTING! Basil was FAST!!!

I've been watching these things since they first came out, but wow... too expensive for what they are! So... Good ole Amazon had one of those 12 Days of Christmas things and found one for 50% off. Cool beans! I used part of a birthday giftcard and got one. It's sitting in my office watching me and I'm watching it. The light coming on and going off automatically freaked my cats out a couple of times, but now they're used to it. Everything has sprouted, some faster than others, and it's really fun to watch. My herbs outside have given up the ghost saying "It's WINTER. WE QUIT" So, this is going to be nice not having to spend the grocery prices for fresh herbs. The light spreads out, too, so I'm looking at getting a few other plants to grow along side the unit. The light's already there. Worth a shot, eh? Update 7/30/2019 HELP!!!!!! The Basil is about to take over the earth!! I swear I heard a faint whisper last night "Take me to your leader!" It's growing faster than my neighbor and I can use it. We've made pesto 'till the cows came home. I lopped some of their smelly little heads off last night to put in risotto and now they've grown so they're touching the lights again. Yes, the light is raised to the highest point. So far, basil, both Italian and Thai, and Italian parsley are the most prolific. I've transplanted some of them outside in the garden and they're doing just fine until one of my wonderful neighbors comes by and cuts them down too far. (I live in a condo). I have great success with thyme as well, but I tend to use that the most. I have NOT had success with dill. It grows then keels over and dies before I can even use it. I've tried growing it twice with the same results. The oregano did really well, as did the mint. The curly parsley never sprouted for some reason. Same with the cilantro. I use cilantro a LOT in Hispanic and Mediterranean cooking so I really wish I could grow it. But, thinking on it, I'd probably have more use for it than it would grow and have to buy it from the store anyway. Oh, and I tried buying seeds from a nursery and growing the seeds in the pods but it didn't work. I wonder what I did wrong?

Fresh Herbs!
By pelly on Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2019
This is a cool idea. Got it for a christmas gift. The herbs are slow growing which is ok but one did not start at all and I have had it 3 weeks. The light is extremely intense and bright and on for 17 hours so it literally lights up your whole area where it is, you won't need to leave any lights on or night lights. Its a bit bright for night time in a 1700 Sq. ft house. Haven't used any of the herbs yet, waiting for them to get bigger. You also have to add a liquid into the water every two weeks, so you will need to rebuy that. A little more high maintenance than I thought, so 3 stars. Update: after 41 days, lots of the basil, wonderful, also basil dill & mint. Thyme never grew & parsley very small. Hoping to hear from company that they will replace these. But those of you who love basil, this is awesome, you get lots!!!
