ASTOUNDING!!!
By Khione on Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2024
This is hands down, without a doubt, the BEST shaver I have ever used! After reading the reviews about how close and smooth a shave this thing offers, I will admit I was skeptical at first, but also super excited to try it out! It was estimated to be delivered the very next day, and I impatiently waited for it, like a little kid waiting for their new toy. When it finally arrived, I happily tore open the box and set everything up. When I used it for the first time ever, I was immediately impressed with how easily it would glide over my skin, and how comfortable and painless it was to use, even on the highest setting! Speaking of which, there are three comfort settings; Comfort, Dynamic, and Efficiency. Comfort is supposed to be best for sensitive skin, while Efficiency has the most power and the quickest, smoothest shave. However, I have sensitive skin myself, and the Efficiency setting is no issue for me! The closeness of the shave from this electric shaver surprised me a great deal. What they are saying in the reviews is true! Philips Norelco’s 0.00mm closeness claim definitely checks out! I was able to achieve BBS smooth skin with just my FIRST SHAVE, having NEVER used a rotary shaver before! This thing really does shave as close as (maybe even closer than) a manual razor! The power of the motor is unbelievable for how quiet it is. It’s one of the quietest electric shavers I’ve ever used, yet when you turn it on, you can literally feel the torque in your hand as it starts up. The shaver is designed for use on your face and neck, yet I had no issues with shaving other parts of my body. I have used this thing on my arms and my legs, and was able to achieve the same level of BBS smoothness, with NO irritation, NO discomfort, and NO redness! You do need to be a bit patient if you want a SUPER smooth shave, but it’s still much faster than shaving with a razor! So I can confidently say this thing is safe to use on your body, too! I’m not sure if I’d be comfortable with using it on more… intimate areas, though. There are a few different accessories available for this razor, and I must say I recommend getting the bundle that comes with all of them (I purchased the Space Grade shaver, which has a nice blue color). The Qi charging pad works as you would expect, and the shaver sits nicely on it, the top part resting in a small dock. The nose and precision trimmer attachments are sufficient. Not great, but not bad either. You are required to remove the shaver head in order to use the attachments. The Quick Clean Pod functions as the name would suggest; you place the head of the shaver in it and it thoroughly cleans it in about a minute. The cleaner has a fresh scent and is also lubricated, so your next shave always feels smooth and fresh. The travel case is nice and bulky, easily fitting the shaver along with some accessories. Overall, I would say that I very highly recommend this shaver. You will not be disappointed at all with how smooth and comfortable a shave it offers. It’s also pretty lightweight and smaller than you might think. It’s quite maneuverable! The accessories and cleaning pod are nice to have and I would definitely recommend them as well. The shaver is also IPX7 waterproof, so you can use it in the shower, or wet shave with it if you’d like. I personally prefer to shave dry, as it doesn’t require any shaving cream or anything, is much less messy and time consuming, and still results in a VERY close shave. But of course, to each their own! Find out what works for you, and enjoy BBS smooth skin with every shave!

Great shaver, but not at this price

I've been using Philips Norelco shavers for several years, and haven't had any issues with them. I've always bought the low-to-middle range models, usually without the extras. This time, I decided to splurge a little and go for this one. I was especially intrigued by the Qi wireless-only charging, and a little by the variable motor speed. I've used it now for 3 months. The good news: it's just as good a wet/dry as any Philips Norelco I've ever used. They do make quality shavers. I have a pretty tough beard and it gives me a nice close shave over most of my beard area. The not-as-good news: I don't think this shaver is any better than its lower-priced counterparts, like the 7200 (the model I was using before this one). So considering just the shaver—not the accessories—the extra cost isn't justified. As far as the extras, the Qi charging is interesting. I'm not a fan of devices (mainly phones) that are only wireless-charge capable, without the option to plug-in. But in this case, something that is expected to come into contact with water probably *should* be wireless-charge only, to minimize possible problems with wet ports. In fact, one of my past shavers did experience problems from water getting inside, despite it being a wet/dry, and ever since then I've been overly careful trying not to get liquid near a charging port. This S9000 does, in fact, have a small opening at the bottom for letting any water that sneaks in drain out; I guess the issue is known and can be addressed. Qi charging works as expected. Like any wireless charging, it's slow. Expect 2–3 hours to charge to 100%. You have to stay mindful of how much battery life is left (which is easy to do, since the display is hard to miss). Because it's the only option for charging this, I question how this'll do as a travel item; I imagine it's a pain to have to pack the not-so-small charging pad. The shaver does charge on any Qi-standard charger—I've done it, it may be tricky to keep the shaver from tipping off but it works—but it's not like those are commonplace in hotels etc. Honestly, I feel I've paid the premium price just to get a Qi charging pad as an extra. In fact, I've used the pad on other devices too. I don't even have it set up in my bathroom, it takes up too much counter space there. In that sense it's worth it, although Qi pads are not that expensive, so it doesn't really cost out. As I said, this shaver gives me a smooth shave over *most* of my beard area. There are a couple of small spots where very low-grade stubble persists, particularly my lower-right jaw. That's always been the case, regardless of which shaver I use. That's why the variable-speed motor was of interest to me, I figured that feature could finally take care of that. Unfortunately, it hasn't. I've tried all 3 settings, none have made a difference with the trouble-stubble areas. Not a big deal, but as far as a feature to pay extra for, the variable speed just doesn't deliver. Overall, this S9000 is a quality buy. But it's no better than its lower-priced counterpart models. It's up to you if its unique features and extras are worth the extra dollars.
