Good digital to analog converter

Sometimes you need these kind of things to mate old and new TVs and stereo equipment This unit converted my HDMI digital signal from my Blu-Ray player to a analog RCA signal as my receivers HDMI ports quit werqing and neither the TV nor the blue ray had RCA plugs Cheap way to fix things till I get another receiver.

This is an HDMI > RCA converter ... but it doesn't work

I see complaints that this won't convert RCA > HDMI. It is NOT supposed to! It is designed to convert HDMI from a smart TV to RCA of an old device like an analog stereo. That is my mission! I hooked it up to the HDMI of my TV and I connected it to a power source then connected the RCA cables to my stereo. ...And the TV will not play any sound through the stereo. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong. My TV also has a headphone jack output and I can connect an AUX cable that has RCA on the other end to my stereo receiver and it works wonderfully. But I am told the HDMI connection is higher quality so I wanted to try this. It is zero quality. Does anyone know how to make it work? Thanks.
