Duh! Where has this been all my life?!

I feel so dumb! I've been playing the violin since 5th grade (and that was quite a few decades ago!) and until a couple of months ago, I had NO IDEA a violin stand was a "thing"! All these years when I've balanced my bow across the stand? Held the violin on my lap? Set my violin carefully on my chair? NO MORE! I was at church and saw a violinist pick up her violin from a stand on the floor. I was shocked! What IS that?!? Well, when I asked her about it, it turned out it was a jerry-rigged guitar holder that barely worked for her, but that got me to thinking . . . so I looked here and found out there are a lot of choices for violin stands. After reading the reviews, I settled on this one. I like that it is metal (sturdy--even on carpeted flooring) and has padding that cradles the violin. The bow holder is great! No more trying to balance it on the stand and walk around it. So far, I am storing it in my case under the zippered top flap. It doesn't quite zip closed now, but it seems to be held securely in place. Wish I had had this YEARS ago!! Can't wait to break it out for the Cantata practice this year!

It's pretty wobbly...
By Dani Jo on Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2020
This stand is ... just okay? You really do get what you pay for here. I've more than once thought about returning it, however my 4/4 Franz Hoffmann Danube violin has already worn a massive groove in the padding just from its very light weight, so I don't think they'd accept a return. In addition to the flimsy padding, it's extremely top heavy and unstable with a violin actually resting in it. The slightest bump will cause it to tip, so, as another reviewer suggested, I keep my violin sideways with the neck safely protected by virtue of ducking under my piano. My violin, for the moment at least, lives in my room where it's safe. If you're a gigging musician, in an orchestra, or own a violin worth more than $250, I STRONGLY recommend that you look elsewhere.
