An Absolute BEAST
By ljanelle on Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019
Wow-cannot believe I went so long without a good vacuum cleaner. This thing is an absolute UNIT. Yes, it's a little heavy. But it has POWER. I have a cat and I also have long hair. Between the two of us, we generate a lot of shed hair, straight into the carpet. This is the first vacuum cleaner that sucked up all our hair without clogging and stopping (I even broke a vacuum one time, snapped clean in half-girl's got thick hair, what can I say?). I did have to clean off the layer of hair that got wrapped around the bottom brush but to the vacuum's credit, it was still picking things up while covered with hair! I had no trouble putting it together, and didn't notice any issues with it being refurbished. The kickstand works fine as long as you set it correctly, but it's finicky-my cat rubbed against it while it was standing before I could put it away and it toppled over. I vacuum weekly, and had my carpets steam cleaned a few weeks ago. Despite that, I could not believe how much dust this monster managed to pull out of the carpets on its first pass. This was for sure a good purchase.

Great performance, poor durability
By Amazon Customer on Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020
Vacuum worked great for about 18 months. Stellar cleaning power and very maneuverable. We have 1 Golden Retriever and 3 cats, and thought this would be the hot ticket (e.g., "Animal" is in the name!) This did a great job picking up all the pet hair for 1.5 years. Now to the bad: this thing is just not designed to last. I just had to order a replacement roller brush for $50 because the bushings at either side failed (massive play and vibration). Upon disassembling the suction head, I found tons of hair and dust compacted into the joint of every rotating assembly = excessive stress/friction = premature failure. There is zero attempt to seal the mating sections that spin to guard against hair/dust intrusion. Beyond that, the bushing that failed on the roller brush is plastic, and shredded/melted (note there was massive clumps of hair in front of, inside, and behind what was left of the bushing. I have nothing against plastics, but this clearly is not the right polymer for the job on this rotating joint. I get it: nothing lasts forever. You can expect to do Preventative Maintenance or repairs on components, but at this price point, I expected more: either Dyson selling just the bushing as a wear item, or Dyson designing a better bushing (brass or higher grade plastic). My anecdotal experience with vacuums has never been to replace bushings after so little use (around 80 hours). Heck, my backup budget Hoover I bought from a department store in 2014 hasn't required any repairs yet, and that has about 4x the hours than my Dyson. TL;DR I will not be purchasing another Dyson.
