it takes a some time to get your return back but it goes by pretty quick when you think about it
By Alekezam36 on Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2018
So I've always been contemplating the switch from having to rent a cable modem router to owning one and never really went all in until this purchase. Yeah, it takes a some time to get your return back but it goes by pretty quick when you think about it. I mean I started thinking about it years ago..... So I'd say about a year ago I did try when I saw a deal on an ARRIS Surfboard SBG6580 (certified refurbished). I paid somewhere around $76 with tax and thought I could make this back in less than a year considering I pay $11 and some change a month renting a unit from Xfinity. It was a bit of a hassle getting it registered as I had to call Xfinity and provide them with key pieces of information specific to the router to get it activated. Got it activated and noticed the speeds were horrendous despite it's advertised properties. It's been awhile now so I can't say specifically what it's speed was but only that it was going way slower than the rented unit from Xfinity. So needless to say I said screw it and returned the ARRIS unit and stuck with the rented one. In all honesty, it may have been that it was a refurbished unit but if it says certified then in my mind it should run like new. Fast forward to present day and I though I'd give it one more go. Started to do some research and found the Netgear N600 C3700 cable modem router combo. Saw that it was in a whole bunch of various top 10 lists for lower to mid end ranged units and went for it. Setup was a breeze as all I did was hook it up via ethernet to my laptop and inputted the required information. Activation was almost immediate and I was off an running within 10 minutes of unboxing it. Note to those of you who don't have a laptop or computer with ethernet connection availability, you'll have to do it the old fashioned way and call up your provider for activation. This is for Netgear products, can't say the same for other brands as I don't have experience on others aside from ARRIS, which at that time I don't recall there being a direct ethernet option. Well, same story, I was getting horrible speeds over wi-fi in the range of 5-20 mbps download and maybe 1-2 mbps upload. If I was in the same room near the router I would be on the higher end of the spectrum but as soon as I went to another room it would drop off in speed significantly. So this time around I though I'd just scrap this unit and go for a higher end expensive unit. Did some more research and found the Nighthawk. Read all sorts of positive reviews on this unit and I can confidently say this thing rocks! Setup was no different than the other N600. Plugged it directly into my laptop via ethernet and followed the steps. Did numerous tests over a few days and speeds are at a constant 53 -56 mbps download and 5.78 -5.95 mbps upload. My service level from Xfinity is 60 Mbps download and 6 up so this thing is right on target. I moved around to different areas of my house and experienced very little to no speed variations. So long story short, everything about this unit is excellent. Simple set up, blazing speeds with little to no drop with distance (strong signal), options for multiple wi fi's, small footprint and extremely light. It's not built like a tank but what does that matter as it's not like you're going to be moving it around on a daily basis or even interacting with it at all for that matter once it's installed. I liked the fact that it's sleek looking, small, and light. I have to say that when it comes to cable modem routers, it's best to fork out a little more and go high end because you really do get what you pay for. It may be a tad expensive at ~$180 + tax but it's damn worth every penny. Now instead of paying myself back from having to rent a unit in 6 months I'm at more like 16 months but time flies so who really cares?

Netgear's Product Support ENDS 90 days after purchase no warranty and no help.
By Bill on Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023
Hey NETGEAR, Thank You for all you Product Support on this unit I have had less than 9 months. This is the reason I am writing this very negative review. . Everyone needs to know that this company is BS. We purchased this highly reviewed NETGEAR C7000v2 Modem Router on March 31, 2023. Setup was easy thru Comcast. Ran well for 9 months, then suddenly stopped working after a power outage. When I called Netgear I asked for help with the unit. The Netgear rep asked for the serial number. Then said the unit needed to be reconfigured and it would cost $200 for 2 year service contact to repair the unit. Later in the discussion Netgear said they could work out a cheaper deal at $100 for one year warrant. I was soo mad I said no I would buy another router from another company. STAY AWAY from any NETGEAR products its a waste of money and time.I once again contacted NETGEAR support. This time I got through giving all my information to be informed that the "3-month support warranty" had ran it's course. Support warranty? As in, you must pay for NETGEAR to provide any technical support, even over the phone. I was then informed that for a 2 year warranty, the price would be 200 DOLLARS. One year is 100 DOLLARS. And their "most affordable"? 50 dollars for a whopping 6 months. I would buy a new router than pay for phone-in support on a product. Absolutely, unbelievably ridiculous. I will never buy another NETGEAR item. I'm not throwing GOOD $ after BAD $. I contacted Amazon and they told me to return the item for a full refund. Never again Netgear never again.

I’ve been using the NETGEAR modem/router combo for a few months, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. Right out of the box, the setup was incredibly straightforward. The instructions were clear, and I was able to get everything up and running in under 10 minutes. NETGEAR’s app made configuration simple, even for someone who isn’t a tech expert. In terms of performance, this modem/router provides fast and reliable internet across multiple devices, with no issues when streaming HD videos, working from home, or even online gaming. The range is impressive, covering my whole home without any noticeable drop in signal, even in the farthest rooms. One feature I love is the built-in security options. The parental controls give me peace of mind, allowing me to manage internet access across devices and set up filters for family members. The firewall and other security measures are robust but easy to adjust, so I feel confident my network is secure. Also worth noting, I had a question about compatibility with my ISP, and NETGEAR’s customer service was quick and helpful. It’s reassuring to know support is there if I ever run into issues. Overall, this NETGEAR modem/router combo is a solid choice for anyone looking for a reliable, high-performance device. Highly recommend!

When I first bought this modem, Phoenix Cox representations (3 of them over a 4 hour span) could not get this model to activate. I was determined to return it. I even left a bad review saying it was not compatible. However, I have seen so many dishonest people goofing off in light of the Covid-19, I decided to hold unto it for a little while longer until some normalcy returned and I could telephone them again. The results? This is a great model. I have the Cox Preferred plan which is 150 mbs per second and it registers at 143 mbs. I am also able to stream my netflix and Hulu without the degradation now. It will not go as fast as 500 or even 400 as some people have alleged however (at least not here in Phoenix). They did a "test run" to see if it could reach that speed and determined it would only go as far as 300 mbs, which still is not bad. I just don't wanna spend more than I am already spending. So, great modem so far. Just make sure you call DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS so you don't get the runaround by Cox staff who may not really want to help you after hours in light of Covid. One one last thing. The instructions for the model tell you how to activate. But, those instructions do not work because for Cox, you have to actually telephone them. They ask for the serial number and MAC address and then they will activate it for you (another reason to call during normal business hours). The CRS I spoke to was awesome.

I’ve had this modem/router for over 6 years. I used it with two different providers and it worked great. It WiFi signal is strong, but some products had trouble getting a strong signal, but it could have been because I moved them to the basement. The set up is easy and simple, changing preferences is also quick and simple. When and if I have to buy another modem router I will be looking at netgear again. Definitely obtained my loyalty with its performance.

Warranty replacement wait too long without internet

Usually this modem router performs well for several devices. If there is one flaw, it is the online/internet function. I'm on my third modem router now and in all cases it was the internet function that failed (not with the service provider). This last time my modem router lasted 9 months then the internet went out and was out for 2 days before I confirmed it was my modem router. I bought a new one to replace it and after setup, everything worked fine. Unfortunately, this voided the warranty. Because Netgear policy, you have to contact customer support. Then they have to troubleshoot it. Then they will replace it if it cannot be fixed. If you're like me and cannot afford to be without internet for very long while you are waiting, then the warranty is worthless. This is something you need to think about before purchasing this modem router.

I bought this on the Cyber Monday sale, I've been wanting to buy my own modem instead of paying the leasing for a crap modem from Spectrum. I've had that modem for 4 years, so I've spend over $400 in leasing :( That's changing now with my AC1900. Setup took 45 minutes because Spectrum had some problems authenticating my modem from their end. With a beer in hand, talking to a Spectrum rep and after 6 or 7 restarts of my modem, I was up and running. I setup my modem during peak hours and just browsing webpages I could tell that the modem performs faster than the old crusty modem, Arris DG1670A that has 16x4 channel bonding compared to the 24x8 that the AC1900 has. The setting menus are easy to browse for the modem, more intuitive than others. I don't have to wade through manuals to figure out where I have to navigate to make settings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE WAY TO FIX ELECTRONICS FROM DROPPING A WIRELESS SIGNAL (cellphones, laptops ect) go to your modem settings -Type 192.168.0.1 in a web browser, when you set the modem up you had to make a password. Login is: Admin and password is whatever you set. (I saved my password in my browser for an auto login so I don't even have to type it) -Your settings should already have the 'basic' tab selected -On the left hand side, click on the 'wireless' button -You have two wireless bands, 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz, change the CHANNEL that each are broadcasting. It doesn't matter what channel you change it to, just change it to another one. Example, my 2.4GHz was on channel 11 and I changed it to 1, my 5.0 was on 157 and I changed it to 36. -Click the green 'apply' button at the top and the settings will change This should solve your problem. This happens because there are so many wireless signals in today's world that these signals can interfere with each other. This is a common problem with this router but it is an easy fix. If your still having problems, just go into the settings again, pick another channel on the list and try again. Hope this helps!
