Smooth even grind, best cup of coffee I have ever had.
By Remi on Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2019
After having an ok grinder for a few years a Mr coffee disk-burr grinder it was cheap but did the trick for 4 years I figure it was 35 bucks I got my money's worth. So as usual when kitchen gadgets die I usually upgrade. I have been doing research on coffee and I have read over and over a smooth uniform grind is a way to get an incredible cup of coffee. ( I was not getting this with the Mr. Coffee grinder). With the Mr coffee grinder I got a lot of dust, and odd granules of coffee at any grind, the coarse setting was like shattered beans with a ton of odd sized pieces. The medium grind was like corse rock salt, the Mr coffee could not make fine enough coffee for espresso or any other use for fine ground coffee (cooking). So I looked at reviews on many sites and found I really liked what I saw and read with the Ariete -Delonghi Electric Coffee Grinder So I placed my order it arrived in 2 days as promised. I had some really great beans from Tunnel City coffee a local small batch roaster. So I tested the Ariete -Delonghi Electric Coffee Grinder and was shocked at the consistency of the grind. On its finest setting, the grinds are like fine baby powder on the coarsest setting its like rough Kosher salt. This is immensely different compared to the Mr Coffee Grinder which was always too coarse on any setting. So I made a small 1 cup French Press pot first with a setting of 16 the max setting coarsest. Brewed the coffee for 6 min and was so impressed that I got all these flavors and subtleties I could usually not taste or smell in this brand of coffee. I added some milk and sugar and it was so smooth I had not had coffee this good since I stayed in 4-star hotel Greenbriar West Virginia as a kid 35 years ago. Next, I took out my Aero Press. The ground on 10 a bit finer than medium grind knowing the Aero press likes finer coffee since the brew time is drastically shorter 1min. Made this coffee and literally, I have finally drank the best cup of coffee I have drank in my entire life on my second try with this new grinder. Both cups of coffee on the bottom of the cups had literally maybe a pinch of sediment from the coffee brew and grind a sign of a consistent uniform grind. I am blown away at what a conical burr grinder can do. This Ariete -Delonghi Electric Coffee Grinder If you are on the fence on what to buy is a steal. I worked as a barista and we had a 700 dollar commercial grinder and this 100.00 grinder makes better coffee than the expensive commercial grinder does. Literally with a french press and an Aero press two incredible cups of coffee. This goes to show me that in fact when you put great beans, dialed in brew times and smooth consistent grind together you can have an incredible cup of coffee any time. Now to dial things in like science and really strive for the perfect cup of coffee. Buy this grinder it is an amazing buy at 100.00 dollars. You won't be disappointed. Now I can finally cook with coffee grinds the finest setting is so fine its like coarse dust. Perfect for sneaking coffee flavor into recipes like brownies, cookies, stews, and other things. It's small, really quiet, not big at all fits on my counter nicely, and is really clean compared to the last grinder. Its mostly plastic but does not feel cheap. The grinder comes out easily for cleaning occasionally and you can take the hopper off for cleaning or switching beans (I wonder if I can get another hopper and switch beans any time from dark roast to light roast ) that would be great! Then store the beans in the hopper in the freezer. The instruction manual is nice and simple easy to understand as well. Buy this Grinder you won't be disappointed at all. On my second try literally the best cup of coffee I have ever had and I'm not dialed in yet with this new grinder!

A Hot Mess
By Lynchphile on Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2018
Well first of all, I bought this as a replacement to the Baratza which never really worked properly and had to be switched out once after 3 uses. So what about this unit? On the positive side, it works well and provides a consistent grind. The hopper is fairly large and holds about 8oz of beans so a 1 pound bag goes in roughly twice and your done. It's not especially noisy. But then there are the negatives -- out of the box it's really confusing how to operate. Let's be honest, no one reads instructions anymore, especially for a coffee grinder, but there is nothing intuitive about this grinder. The grind size is on the side. I thought this was the timer. On top are a few images of coffee beans that are slowly disappearing with each image. I thought this was the grind -- large to small. After wasting an entire pound of coffee, it turns out the truth is the exact opposite! OK call me dumb, but it's a really poor design. Further, there is something really idiotic about this. You have to set the timer each time you grind the coffee! Compounding how dumb this is, you actually have to turn it on twice. You turn it on, turn it off and quickly set the timer. Who came up with this dumb idea? OK so now you've ground the coffee, what next? You need to yank the tank from a rubber gasket. It takes some force and more times than not, grinds are going to go all over your counter. It's really really messy. Plus this talks to a potential durability issue -- that rubber is likely to wear out well before the motor. Finally, you want to put the machine away? Well be prepared for a TON of grinds stuck up in the grinder that will come pouring out. And I mean A LOT. Like enough to make a full 12 oz cup of coffee with some to spare! That a real bad design flaw. So net net, I'm giving it 3 stars because at least it works. Unlike the absurdly expensive Baratza which the company knows has a design flaw, but does nothing about (the motor burns out and they want you to fix it yourself with solder! They even have a .pdf they will send you with directions!)
