On time and just fine

Reading reviews I was really worried if I'd gamble with this refurbish. When I got it I was even more mortified to see it wasn't in a box but the factory one. I was worried the post office tossed it around or banged it up but thankfully it came safe and sound. I already have this model so I knew to wipe the OS on it and have a bare bones Windows put on. So far there are zero issues. It runs games smoothly. Doesn't lag at all and both speakers work. My only tip would be once you get it, set it up then do a 'fresh' install of windows to remove all bloat ware. The bright side that I like about the Omen is if a part breaks, most of the components can be removed and replaced. My husband's DC port broke off his ROG and I was mortified to see it soldered on where as my Omen I can just remove the part and place a new one. I can solder just fine, I just never like doing it.

So Far So Good! But there are problems.

Another Update: So, another issue with this model is that if you touch your keyboard when you are charged with static electricity, your computer will shut down. Despite this fact, I'm still pretty happy with this thing but I would suggest you don't buy it. Spend your money elsewhere. Updated Review (see initial review below): I honestly wish I could help these other people solve their issues with this Laptop. I am having an issue now. One one of the screws on the back was over tightened (probably during the refurbish) and now it's striped out, so I can't upgrade the HD to a SSD (the sata port) unless I order a new back plate and drill out that screw. Fortunately, there is an M.2 slot which I will use moving forward for my SSD and have the HD as my overflow drive. The only other major issue I have with this laptop is Windows 10. It has caused countless slow downs and incompatibilities that I never experienced with Windows 7. Luckily, I have since been able to remedy most of them. There are still minor annoyances. I can't stand how Microsoft feels like they control their customers with Windows 10. It's almost worse than Apple. For most of you complaining about performance, there is your culprit, Microsoft and Windows programs you probably don't even need running in the background. I can run this as a work station and games run just fine but I did have to make a lot of software tweaks that shouldn't be necessary for a $600-$1000 product. Even a refurbished one. This boils down to shame on Microsoft (and some shame on HP for their Omen bloat ware but theirs is pretty easy to remove and the laptop isn't as under-powered as everything thinks it is. it just feels that way if you don't remove unnecessary programs) for bloating their operating system and forcing us to let them spy on us. I would recommend you do not get this unless you know what you're doing. This probably won't run how you want it to out of the box. Removed one star. Thanks for reading. -------- Initial Review: I have to admit at first I was very underwhelmed and filled with buyers remorse. Based on previous reviews I was a bit scared I'd receive a broken laptop. Keep in mind that I ordered this item from Woot and not one of the other suppliers I've seen depending on when I clicked the link for this item. I caught this during a deal and I have to say it was a deal. So far everything about this refurbished laptop is just like a brand new one would be. It arrived in perfect condition. Now the reason it didn't get 5 stars, despite it being worth 5 stars after I made some system tweaks, and me paying less than what this is probably being advertised for now. When I first got the laptop it did not run very fast at all. It would hang on install screens for a couple seconds and there were lagging issues.... Bad. That was within the first hour. I did some research and found that sometimes it's the HP/Omen bloatware, Windows bloatware, and the videos drivers not being up to snuff with what they should be. So, I got rid of any non-essential HP/Omen & windows bloatware programs (sorry I'm not going to take the time to list them) and installed Nvidia GeForce experience to handle my video drivers. Also, I made sure to scrub my Windows Security settings and startup programs. After a couple hours and a few restarts, it run exactly as I'd expect. Haven't had a problem since. And I was using it pretty much non-stop after that. If you can stand a bit of system work, as of now, I'd recommend this. Haven't given it a proper test with gaming yet. I'll probably update my review after some more time with this. Thanks for reading.
