Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4 Bluetooth Speaker (Open Box)

Update as of March 6 2022: despite not using this thing at maximum volume ever and only using it at home, it broke. What. The. Frack. This only lasted two years. It sounds like the cone blew but it may be something else, because on top of giving me a clipping/distortion sound when certain bass frequencies hit, it also seems to not hold a charge anymore. Hopefully is just a fluke. I will research and see if i can fix. Wow, I am extremely pleased with this bluetooth speaker. I was prepared to be disappointed, and it was fantastic not to be. Shopping for speakers is such a pain. The inventory held by physical retailers often doesn't meet my needs, or is way out of my price range. But because there isn't any real objective measure of quality that is dependable when buying speakers, shopping online could mean buying and returning things until you find "the one", which is a major pain. I am not a pro engineer, but I have a pretty sharp ear for audio quality because of plenty of experience as a musician. I'm looking for something that doesn't sound muffled, where I can hear highs clearly, where the bass doesn't over power everything, and where dynamics are represented in a wide range. I was looking for something that will mostly be a Bluetooth speaker in my bedroom, but that I can occasionally carry into other rooms in the house. Not looking to really leave the house with it or stick it into a backpack or anything. Doesn't need to be rugged or waterproof, really. First I tried a pair of more rugged "portable speakers", and was very disappointed by the sound, so I sent them back. I can understand that portable speakers have to meet other standards besides audio quality, so I can be forgiving about it but it wasn't what I wanted. People were just raving about the great sound in the reviews. THIS is by far the best blue tooth speaker I've ever heard. Not just that... it GETS LOUD. It doesn't need to... I'm only using it at about 50% volume in a bedroom. I feel the bass thumping through my furniture. It also projects the sound FANTASTICALLY. I had previously been using two small studio monitors in the bedroom, which are great quality as studio monitors, but these are narrow cone and not designed to fill a room, so not so great as room speakers. This Harmon Kardon speaker blows them away. The bass thumps, things sound crisp and clear. I've tested it with symphonic music, Tame Impala, punk, hip hop, and a variety of other things. Everything sounds great. I am so happy with this.
