Great camera and customer service
By Doc on Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2017
An excellent product with great customer service. I was somewhat concerned when others stated how bad the service was but I found that to not be true in my case. Bought this camera and had it up and running in just a few minutes. Excellent pics and video from the start, but found night vision was dark. Contacted customer service at Blink and within 12 hours had a reply stating they pushed a firmware update to my camera. Viola...it works as advertised and the night vision is now very good. Plus with re-aiming we now have zero false alerts. Would, and probably will, buy this camera again. Update on July 26: The camera amazes and delights again and again.Fast trigger time, reliable clip notification and excellent pictures day and night. Catches every motion. When setting up, I used double sided tape (not included in my package although others say it was) and moved the camera several times to get the best view, and so the slight view of our side street (we live on a corner) was blocked and the excess triggers immediately quit. Then I installed it by drilling and screwing the mount in permanently. If there is any negative to this at all is the rather flimsy mount. It works as intended and we have had none break, but wish Blink had a security mount offered as other brands do. In summary, can't say enough about this great camera and security device. Update August 17: Camera is still function great. I had some instances of lack of or slow notification to my phone when the motion sensor activated and found that even though the camera to WI-fi signal was three bars, that was often too low and the delay occurred. I added a WI-fi extender and the problem is solved. 5 Bars on the sync module and 5 bars on the camera too. And Blink customer service has been top notch yet again. Fast response and willingness to help. A final note is that some people seem to post here on the regular Blink camera instead of the Blink XT outdoor model. There is a huge difference in picture, motion sensing and night vision. If you buy but one camera, I'd suggest the Blink XT regardless of where you install it. It is just far superior to the standard indoor model. Update August 20....check out the fast motion detection and video quality. A hummingbird no less.... Update September 18..Camera is still working flawlessly. Temperature on porch was 105 degrees several days and camera had no issues. Some complain about slow notifications, but this may be a flaw with certain smart phones rather than the system. For example, my spouses phone will alert within seconds of the motion detection while mine sometimes lags or not at all. In investigating this issue I found that LG phones frequently have this issue and even though I have different alerts for the Blink, I also find out that sometimes I do not receive text message alerts either. On the iPads the alert is fast and reliable. Phone lag or lack of alert is certainly not the fault of the camera. Still think these cameras are excellent. One thing to add is that some people are reviewing the standard Blink camera and not the Blink XT. In my opinion, they are totally different animals so be sure what you read is really the XT model. Update February 1, 2018: Still works great, we have about 15-20 clips a day and still on the original set of batteries. The notifications are no longer an issue, we get notifications each and every time the camera is triggered. Fast trigger time and the the night IR remains excellent. Ordering another today for the back area. Update July 2018...screenshot shows the extreme temperature on our patio. 143 degrees and yet the Blink XT performed and continues to do so flawlessly. No, Blink does not suggest the cameras be subjected to this, just a testament to the excellent temperature handling of this unit. Update December 18, 2018 Bought yet more of the Blink XT cameras and they are working well. The latest firmware update includes detection zones so you can shade out those areas where false alarms are triggering the camera, such as a vehicle passing or a pedestrian beyond where you want to see movement. This was rolled out recently and Blink is still working on some minor glitches in its operation, (should be updated this week) but a huge improvement to the overall system. Zone detection combined with scheduling makes these invaluable for security. Customer service remains first class with quick response and fast updates should you have a problem that can be fixed with firmware, software or just information. Very pleased with these cameras. Update 3-38-2019 Still super impressed by these cameras. We even found what is eating our hummingbird feeders dry at night...bats! Captured on the Blink XT. Battery life has been less than advertised with us getting about a year on a set of batteries, although that is dependent on the number of triggers a day. We still see 15 or so daily so think that may be the shortcoming on battery life. The detection zones work fairly well; we find vehicles or multiple people walking by way outside the detection zone will still set it off, but it appears the detection zone feature works fairly well. Still highly pleased.

Disappointing weaknesses and not a potential replacement for my bug ridden Arlo Pros
By Taurus on Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2018
I've owned Arlo Pros and Go's for over a year now. I gave both of those cams a 1-star review but kept them because they're better than nothing and really haven't found a good wireless replacement yet. I bought 5 Blink XT's and placed them in the place of 5 of my old Arlo Pros for comparison. I was really hoping I could permanently replace my Arlos with them. I've been using them for a month and I think I have plenty of experience with them now. While Blink XT fixed many problems Arlo has, unfortunately overall Blink is a big disappointment for the following reasons: 1. The Blink Cams have a very short range to their base station. I'd estimate that I can place my Arlo Pros at least 3 times the distance from their base station and they're still within range. You have to keep the Blink XT cams very close to their base station. 2. The motion sensor in the Blink XT is far wrose than in the Arlo Pro. If you raise the sensitivity in Blink XT above 5 you start getting too many false positive alerts. If you leave it at 5, it will only trigger when someone is very close to it. Arlo Pro's however have a much better motion detection range. 3. The attachment that comes with Blink is flimsy. Wind can easily move the attachment and the cam which triggers false positive alerts. You can however pretty solidly attache Arlo Pros outside and they have never triggered a false positive alert due to wind blowing them. Let me also reiterate that I put the 5 new Blink XT in the same spot 5 of my Arlo Pros were. So it's really an apples-to-apples comparison. The above reasons really make it a no brainer that Blink can't replace Arlo Pros. But there are still more weaknesses in Blink XT: 4. You can only have a total of 1 cam live-view at a time with Blink. Arlo allows you 5 live-view cams per base station. If you have multiple base stations, multiply the number of base stations by 5 and that's how many live-views you can have with Arlo. I'm not sure why Blink had to have this restriction. 5. Blink XT cams require a connection to both your Wifi and its own base station. Why? Arlo cams only require a connection to their base station. 6. There's no web interface with Blink. Again, why? When I'm at my computer and want to check out what triggered the cam, I prefer to use my computer. I only resort to the cell phone when I'm not near a computer. Blink always forces you to use your phone. 7. Blink doesn't display your batter percentage left unlike Arlo. Blink just says "OK" for battery so you don't know how much batter is still really left. Based on some research I did, Blink's batteries won't last more than a couple of months despite their 2-year claim. Let me me also mention that Blink XT is better than Arlo for the following reasons: 1. Blink XT runs on standard batteries you can easily replace or buy your own rechargeable batteries. Arlo Pros however run on their own proprietary batteries which go flat fast, often go dead, and replacing them cost a whopping $50. 2. No subscription cost with Blink 3. Other than the motion sensitivity issue and the poor range, the software with Blink XT appears pretty solid. Arlo has a lot of bugs which they don't bother to fix. 4. Blink is pretty solid. It's always up. Arlo cams and base stations and even their service often go down. Arlo is also dishonest about their down times. They have lots of them and usually either don't admit it or blame it on a third party. Once my entire library disappeared and they blamed it on wrong use of filters. I never used filters for library search. I also saw other users complain about the same issue on the discussion forums, yet Arlo blamed me. 5. I haven't had to call Blink customer service yet. But Arlo's customer service couldn't be worse and they treat their customers like idiots. I contacted them many times and it's just a useless run-around each time. 6. Blink is really smart when it comes to recordings. You can delay successive recordings (not with Arlo) and you can also set much shorter recording times with Blink than Arlo. This can help save a lot of battery. Update as of August 4, 2019: I'm leaving the 1-star review as the software improved not one bit over the year. What we're still missing is a web-based interface, being able to live-view more than 1 cam, the wifi range remains abysmal, and the motion sensor is still awful (lots of false positive alerts). One positive thing I must mention though is the original batteries are still in after over a year. I'd say the blink XT is still more for recreational use than security. Update as of September 14, 2020: The only notable thing since my last update is 4 out of the 5 Blink XT cams still have the original batteries. So that's really impressive. Not much else improved though, neither with Blink nor with the Arlo software. Arlo actually continues to worsen - their recent App update sometimes causes the App to freeze for 5+ seconds which is very frustrating when using it and their downtimes haven't improved. Some of my Arlo Pro cams now have flat batteries that won't hold a charge very long and I'm not about to buy their $50 proprietary battery. Blink XT software and service on the other hand is pretty solid.
