Direct Drive Motor Coupling Kit

Installed the new coupling kit and all seemed well initially and then discovered about the 2nd or 3rd load that it hadn't spun out and hadn't agitated either. Took the washer apart again and found that the metal core/ring was completely detached from the outer plastic piece on one of the couplers. Thankfully, a local appliance store carried Whirlpool OEM coupling kits so we were able to get a new part in a few hours (this was the weekend of Christmas, not a great time to be unable to do laundry). I should have just done that in the first place but tried to save a little $$ and a drive across town since we didn't need the washer immediately when the coupling first failed...that didn't work out so well. The appliance store said at one point they sold to aftermarket coupling kits like this but they had so many returns due to failure that they only carry Whirlpool OEM kits now. So, just a warning that your mileage may vary as far as endurance of this part and you may want to order a couple to have a backup on hand. From the reviews, it seems many have had success but when you get a badly built one that fails, it'll fail pretty quickly as others have reported. It may just be cheaper to by an original Whirlpool part instead of a few aftermarket ones to find one that lasts.
