I use this keyboard on a “standard” 2019 7th Generation iPad. It’s exactly what most Apple accessories are. A perfect, battery-efficient addition to your mobile arsenal. For all the expense and strange ROI people complain about with MacBooks and OSX machines, Apple does one thing right all the time: they make perfect peripherals that do exactly what they are advertised for, in style and with features you didn’t know you needed. These keys are bizarre. They are chiclet-style raised keys, with an absolutely fantastic texture that can’t be compared. I guess maybe rubberized micro-corduroy? The F and J keys have the standard blind typing bump, and everything is kind of tight as you might expect on such a small form factor. The typing experience is a joy, even with giant meat mitts like mine! The sound and action of the keys is quiet and firm, so I can type for a good long while on this thing without driving people in the room nuts or bothering my hands. The compact nature of the keys takes a little getting used to, as there is little space for function and symbol keys. There is a very handy emoji key in the bottom right for use with Apple emojis and downloaded sticker sets. The arrow keys are tiny, in the bottom right. If you use a magic keyboard, the layout will be familiar. The battery drain this device causes is not noticeable. It magnetically attaches to the side of the iPad, and works with most single-side cases on the market (check out the section on “Bought with this item” and choose the one you like. It really doesn’t matter what the material is unless you have kids or are planning on putting the iPad through an obstacle course and need tough armor. As you might guess, the keyboard folds into itself, presenting a synthetic suede face toward the screen. It acts as a thick, protective cover and magnetically sleeps the device display. The cover it creates is a little chunky and not perfectly symmetrical, but closes precisely and doesn’t allow too much crud under it. Having a screen protector would give you 100% security, but I never worry about modern devices. Why did I buy this? Simple. It makes the iPad into a computer replacement. You can quickly and easily type with office software, Discord, social media, e-mail, etc. My iPad sit so n the coffee table, ready for gaming or conversing at a moment’s notice. The angle is great for viewing, and is magnetically secured to make sure your iPad doesn’t slip flat as you pound on the keys. Oh, and you don’t have to connect anything. Like all Apple products, the iPad knows the keyboard has been attached, and behaves like it was made to work with it, which it was. That’s a big plus. No goofing with Bluetooth settings or worrying about disconnecting mid-sentence. So, don’t play around with 3rd party stuff. Grab a genuine Apple keyboard for your little tablet and turn it into a mobile battlestation you can be proud of!

Could be so much better. Constant issues after over a year of use. Constantly stops working.

December 2018 Update. I purchased this keyboard twice. I returned the first one because it was not great. Unable to find a high quality replacement, I bought it again, and used the keyboard every day for over a year. The Apple keyboard exhibits many flaws. If you’re using it on a desk or firm flat surface, it works OK. Used anywhere else, it constantly stops typing, or a key will send a signal and enter the character repeatedly until the keyboard is removed and replaced. I became used to being frustrated with this keyboard on a constant basis. Any twist to the keyboard causes it to stop working. I finally purchased an inexpensive Chinese keyboard and have been using this for the past week. The cheaper keyboard works great and has none of the flaws, but it’s a cheap keyboard. I really miss using the Logitech Type +, which was rock solid reliable and very easy to type on. The current Logitech offering for the 10.5” Pro is horrible. Apple, please, you can do much better than this keyboard. I’ve purchased and returned a bunch of keyboards for the 10.5” Pro. The lack of a high quality keyboard is really holding back the iPad Pro. The Microsoft Surface is starting to look really good for work. I was really excited to try this keyboard, but it doesn't make the grade and is being returned. I've used and loved the Logitech Type + on an iPad Air 2 for many years. The Logitech Type + keyboard is hands down a much better keyboard than this Apple product. The Logitech is sturdy and offers a much better platform for holding the iPad in any position, and on any surface. I never felt the need to remove the Logitech. In fact, I used double stick tape to hold it in place making it a permanent fixture on my iPad. Not so with the Apple keyboard. I found that while trying to use the Apple it in a folded position, keys wind up being depressed for the pressure on the back of the keyboard. This was a major source of frustration. When the keyboard is folded away, you should not be able to accidentally depress any keys. I tried the Apple keyboard for a weekend and found myself removing it frequently, until I finally took it off altogether, something I never felt the need to do with the Logitech Type +. With the Apple keyboard, it is frustrating to type on when it is not on a solid surface such as a table, the keyboard moves around, as does the screen. My typing errors increased dramatically as a result. The Apple is compact, but unfolding it is also a chore, which negates any advantage of compactness completely. It also offers no protection for the corners or back of the iPad. For $160, I was expecting a lot more. Here's hoping somebody comes out with a slim, lightweight option similar to the Logitech Type + for the 10.5" iPad Pro.
