Mundane/Overpriced -- Yet, Somewhat Pleasant
By Deets on Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2023
I was a huge fan of the original, now discontinued, Tommy Bahama (2005) cologne. I currently own three colognes from Tommy Bahama line, including my recently purchased aquatic/floral/fruity, Maritime. This fragrance boasts an impressive exterior design that evokes a sense of embarking on an island adventure (like many in the TB line). However, the initial spray falls short of capturing the natural essence promised by the setting. Instead, it delivers harsh synthetic notes accompanied by a strong alcohol odor reminiscent of cheap aftershaves. The dry down smells like baby powder and has a cheap quality to it. I didn't mind it the first time, but I was eager to wash it off after several hours. Speaking of, the longevity is quite high; it was still going strong 6-8 hours later. Overall, in the oversaturated world of aquatics (ba dum tiss) this is just another mundane spray. There are other, better alternatives at half the price out there. I wish Tommy Bahama would bring back their original, rather than releasing these generic, overpriced juices. Out of the 4 Tommy Bahama colognes I have tried -- this one is easily the worst. Ordered from best to worst: Tommy Bahama for Men [2005] (by a longshot) Tommy Bahama St. Barts Tommy Bahama for Him (it's a toss up between 2 and 3) Tommy Bahama Maritime
