interesting experiment, but returning: has kinks to work out

I was attempting to replace an Asus firewall router and a Ubiquiti AC Pro access point with this. I didn't purchase it through Amazon, and will be returning it in a few days. It's got an interesting feature set, including a few things that I'd like, but it didn't stack up well against what I'd had previously. I tried it first in its typical architecture, where it had a primary firewall role, and that seemed pretty unstable in our experience. A couple times a satellite would get locked up, beyond any self-healing, and that didn't endear it to the family. Was using its ethernet backplane feature. Then I put my Asus back in charge of firewalling, and put this in access point mode, just trying to use the mesh for WiFi purposes. That was a PITA to configure and get everything happy, took a couple hours with Support, but looks as though that's a buggy setup too. The router and satellites seem stable finally, but only the router appears to be taking on WiFi clients, which makes this less useful. So, I've ordered a second Ubiqiuiti router, and will go with that to extend our WiFi instead. Any questions, happy to answer them, even if it's from the company. I learned that the built-in Disney Circle functionality is a "freemium" model, where you'd have to subscribe monthly to get the same functionality of having a standalone Circle device. Support was very helpful, get points for 24/7 availability, but during the daytime west-coast it took an hour on hold to reach them.
