Great tool! Easy to use, well built
By Dave R on Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2020
This tool is just what I needed to help me find and replace an intermittent TPMS sensor on my 2012 Corolla. My TPMS light would come on every once in a while on longer trips. It would flash for 1 minute then stay on which indicated a sensor problem, not a low tire pressure. I suspected that the battery was starting to go on one sensor, but which one? This tool allowed me to read all 4 sensors and told me that 2 of my sensors had a low battery. On an especially cold morning, one of those 2 did not read at all, so I knew which one was the likely culprit. I replaced it with an Autel MX sensor. This tool allowed me to read the ID number from the failing OEM sensor and copy it into the new MX sensor. What if the OEM sensor was completely dead and I could not read it using the tool, you ask? No problem, the OEM sensor has the ID printed right on it and I could have entered the ID manually. Since the new MX sensor was programmed with the same ID as the original, no re-learn procedure was necessary. The local Toyota dealer wanted $160 to replace a sensor. So for the cost of this TS408 tool and one Autel MX sensor, I was still ahead, and now I have a tool I can use the next time. And the satisfaction of fixing it myself. I'm very impressed with the AUTEL TS408 tool and the MX sensor. Very easy to use and program the new Autel MX sensor. Nice color display and user interface. Even the case is well designed and very sturdy. Don't make the mistake I did, though... on my test drive to the grocery store I had the original sensor in the car with me (in the trunk). I thought it was dead and just along for the ride, but not so. About every minute the TPMS light would come on for a few seconds, then go off again. I finally figured out that the old sensor was still working (even though the battery was low), and interfering with the new one in the tire, since they both have the same ID. Once I left the original sensor at home, everything worked great. To break the bead on the tire, I used the floor jack with ratchet straps method that I saw on YouTube videos, it worked well.

Got a used one or from an unauthorized dealer.

I tried to register the tool, but it failed, seems the tool was registered before. Or I got it from an unauthorized dealer. I have to say this tpms tool is good at this price. The other problem is that there are no MXsensor in this package. But this tool can only program Autel's sensor.
