Takes practice so be patient. This is my second sprayer. First one lasted a little over a year. The motor blew....i could have gotten too much water in it. I spray approx 3 days a week with it so I use it a lot! The filter needs to be cleaned every so often. It clogs a lot because i spray inside with it. Next time I will invest in a more professional paint sprayer but for the average DIY'er it is good. I determined my biggest stresser with this spayer is not getting too close and not watering the paint down too much. I do not use chalk paint so I can't comment on that. But with practice and patience you get a very beautiful professional finish.
