Awesome solution for extending a network connection
By Nick E on Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2022
ZyXEL 1800Mbps Pass-Thru Powerline Adapter: $64.99 at the time of reviewEven before my wife and I bought our home I knew I had my work cut out for me to get the network up to snuff. We wanted to put a security camera on the side of our house that was just outside of wifi range. As it happens, it was also over a solid concrete slab (the garage) so I couldn't do under it with cabling either. Enter these ethernet over powerline adapters. They turned out to be a great solution for us and they might be for you too!*What I liked*:These are stone simple to set up. Plug one in near your router (and plug it into your router with an ethernet cable) and the other in somewhere else in your house. So long as they are both on the same grid, you will have an instant connection! They also have a security feature that encrypts the traffic which I consider to be critical as anyone else plugging into your grid with a similar tool could potentially gain access to your network without it.The price is decent too at only $65 bucks. That’s WAY cheaper than running cable under concrete.Their performance is also good. I was able to hit about 75% of the stated throughput. You may think that 75% isn’t a good number, but this type of connection is prone to a ton of interference that depends on the quality of wiring in your house, how far apart the units are, and what is plugged in near them among other things.*What I didn't like*:As mentioned above, they are prone to interference. If you have an older house with poor wiring, or if you have some appliances that interfere, these may not work well or at all. Be prepared for that possibility.*The Bottom Line:*These were the perfect choice for my needs. Our camera on the side of our house has been running flawlessly for the last 3 years thanks to these extenders. The minor downsides are definitely outweighed by the performance. This is a solid five stars out of five for me. Not only would I buy this over again, I have (for my parents house).

If you have super slow wifi, this MIGHT be okay for you
By Joe Jensen on Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2020
I ordered these adapters mostly out of curiosity (and slight laziness) to see how it would stack up against my wifi and my ethernet cable i have temporarily running across my house to my computer. The concept is great, something that you just plug into the wall and your router/modem on one end, and wall and computer on the other. In practice however, it's not really effective at all. I have pretty dang fast internet at my house, even over wifi, but especially through ethernet (usually about 6mb [not mbps] down over 5g wifi on the far side of the house and about 45mb [again not mbps] over ethernet. With these adapters and making sure to give them the most fair chance possible, I was able to get about 3-4mb down at best. Now this is still decently fast internet for most casual uses such as watching some youtube videos or checking your email, or even occasional netflix streaming however if you are looking to use these to get high speeds without physically running cables under your house or through your walls, don't bother. Now if you are sitting there thinking "but those are pretty good speeds, that's the same speed I get over physical ethernet!" hold your horses because they key thing to remember here is that I was getting those speeds, and they were still only one tenth at best for the speeds I get over ethernet. Now I did also go ahead and test these out at my girlfriends house who lives up a private road and gets her internet through satellite (yuck) and her speeds over wifi are a measly 1.6 MBPS average and with these adapters, I was able to see speeds consistently at about 3.8MBPS. Mind you these are still practically snail speeds, but the ping time on speed tests went from an average of 160ms over wifi, to just 27ms average which lead to response times on websites and even netflix feeling noticeably faster. Now if I were to run a physical ethernet cable to her computer I would imagine the speed being increased, but not by much since I know for a fact that at her modem, the highest speeds i have been able to test were just 9MBPS and that was the record high for her house. Over all, if you're still reading this, these adapters are certainly not worth their cost but if you are really lazy about running a physical ethernet cable and also have naturally slow internet on a dinosaur of a router, this can be a viable solution to get at least better-ish speeds compared to wifi.
