Great camera! Not perfect but pretty close!
By Matthew Holland on Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2017
I think this is my first online product review in a long, long time... BACKGROUND... I rely heavily on reviews and I'm so in love with this camera, that I thought I should shout it out to the world. First, I'm a longtime Nikon fanboy... having started with them in the mid 90's. I eventually went digital with the D100, D200 and the finally my beloved D300. All fantastic cameras! My D300 was feeling a little long in the tooth so I was excited to see the announcement for the long awaited successor D500 which I immediately ordered. It is a great camera but to be honest, it really wasn't that impressive versus my 10 year old D300. Yes, all the specs were better, more megapixels, better iso, faster, etc. and while it maintained the Nikon feel, which I had obviously grown accustom, it didn't feel like an amazing upgrade. After a couple weeks, I really wasn't seeing a substantial gain in the actual photos so, I ended up returning the camera and decided to go back to my trusty D300. Then I started looking at smaller 'travel' type cameras to take on family vacations, etc. That's when I ran across the Fujis and I'm now a convert! REVIEW STARTS HERE... Lots of great reviews so I won't get into too many details but the camera is absolutely fantastic! It has all the expected specs of a current gen camera with the 'old school' aesthetic that I love! But most importantly, the handling is absolutely spot on! After having used it for a month, I can't believe that I never questioned the handling functions on my trusty old D300. Yes, you can get to all the same places but a dial that rotates to infinity and displays a number or function in a digital display simply isn't the same as an actual dial that shows you the setting all the time. At a glance, before I take a shot, I can see that everything is set for the particular situation. This was the standard, long before my time, I wonder why the camera industry got away from it in the first place. Strange. Electronic viewfinder was actually my biggest concern and it has become the biggest benefit! It is awesome!!!! If you haven't experienced it, I can't begin to tell you how amazing it is to see a preview of the shot you just took in the viewfinder. It allows you to stay focused on your subject while still allowing you to see if you actually got the shot you intended to take. Now that might seem trivial, but I used to take 3-4 shots... now I take ONE, with certainty. Brilliant!! And speaking of brilliant it is a large bright high res display. Initially I found myself pixelpeeping at it, but that wore off quickly. We just got back from a trip to Portugal and the shots that I ended up with are amazing! I took about 750 total, and ended up keeping around 550. In the past that percentage would have been substantially lower and I know that I got shots that I would have somehow missed with my trusty D300. No doubt the D500 would have been close, but the shooting/handling experience coupled with the EVF, makes for such an enjoyable shooting experience, that I don't want to put the camera down! Now that isn't to say it is perfect. Yes, a touchscreen would be nice. And the phone connection is abysmal! GPS is basically useless. And it isn't cheap. But nothing is perfect. Thank you Fuji for making such an awesome camera!!!!

questionable quality control buying through amazon.
By Aung Cho Oo on Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2019
Bought the exact same model for two times on Amazon. The first one fail right after the return period end. Thousands of white pixels showed up on the images even on those pictures taken with the lens capped. Happened around like 45 days after the purchase and could not return so I had to call the customer support at Fujifilm. Customer support told me that the sensor had failed and needed the camera be shipped to their service center so I did and was fixed and shipped it back in 14 days. I love the image quality when everything work perfect and so does my sister. And I simply believed the first camera fail only because I was unfortunate and got a lemon. So I bought another one as a birthday present for my sister. The $1700 camera fail brand new right out of the box. Return the camera the next day.
