Kasa products are ROCK SOLID.

UPDATE checking in after 5 years of constant usage. Can you believe all bulbs are still working? I have over 40 Kasa products. Plugs, Bulbs. All good still. --------------------------- This is my 3rd update. I am keeping my original review as well as the last update on bulbs losing connection.. Turns out, it was all human error, meaning, all fingers pointing back at me. The reason two bulbs lost connection was because I made certain gadgets (webcams, printer etc) to be assigned a fixed local IP address and ONLY on a certain port setting (not 8000). When my router resets, two bulbs found themselves using those IPs, but because the port was not assigned correctly, it could never connect onto my local LAN. So, apologies TP-Link! Once I figured that out, I was able to repurpose the bulbs that I thought were "dead" and used it elsewhere. So far, all my Kasa bulbs has been stellar. Upgrading this back to 5 gleaming stars. --------------------- My original review was below. Originally given 4 stars, I am downgrading it to 2 stars. As stated, two bulbs lost connection to the internet. The bulbs will still switch on to their last configuration, but at this point, they are essentially regular bulbs and not smart anymore. Which is a waste. I was hoping they would last for many more years. In contrast, some of the OEM china made smart bulbs are still working, albeit their color temp and brightness are not as rich as these. I have bought a few of the newer TP link bulbs (K series). Will see if they last longer. ---------------------------- Great smart bulb. I am knocking off 1 star as out of 4 bulbs that I own, one of them would lose connectivity every once in a while. Though this could also be due to the remote location (from router) that the bulb resides in. The color temp is just right, I love the effect the bulb has when dimmed at 5%. Perfect as a night light. Easy integration with Alexa once you enable the KASA Skill within Alexa App. This bulb is bright enough to use as a primary reading light source. Best of all, it works without a hub.

I *really* wanted to like this...

I really wanted to like this. And at first, I did. But 4 months in, it's a different story. When I got my bulb, it worked fine. The Kasa app isn't super-intuitive, and I felt the directions weren't exactly helpful, but after 10 or 15 minutes of fiddling I got things up and running. I even got it attached to my Amazon Echo with relatively minimal fuss. It was responsive, it worked, and I was well under way of realizing my dream of human slothitude. Things started going downhill a month or so in, when Alexa could no longer find the device. Grrr. I de-coupled it, uninstalled and reinstalled the Kasa app (which, by the way, I can't find on the App Store - like, the name of the app is "Kasa for Mobile" and typing "Kasa" in the search bar will even autocomplete the name, but it doesn't return the actual app. I had to go to the website and click the link directly to the app. Like, any other thing I search for on the App Store, I'll find along with eleventy bajillion completely unrelated apps just because the search term was somewhere in the description - so it's kind of sad that the "flagship" app for that otherwise uncommon search term won't even be returned. Make of that what you will.) After three or four times of performing this process to reconnect the Echo only to have it disconnect again in a few days, I gave up. I was still able to control it using the app, so I gave up on my voice activated light and settled for app activated lights. So, things continued fine for another couple of months, until they didn't. The past month has been straight up not working though. I've tried de-coupling, uninstall/reinstall, and nothing works. Well, if I get up and turn the light off and then on again, it seems to reset the wifi receiver in the bulb long enough to connect and allow me to control it from the app for about 5 minutes. Which, if you're not following, COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF REMOTE CONTROL LIGHTS. I'm connected to the 2.4gh network. I don't know what else to do and frankly, I really shouldn't have to do anything else as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a tech genius, but I'm by no means technologically maladapted, either. I get things need a reset every now and then. But every time? I'm not exaggerating. I have to use my "smart" light as a standard light. I'm sorry, but this is pretty standard freakin technology. I have various devices, all of which use wifi to connect to the network and manage to stay connected with no issues, no resets, so it's not as though I have any unrealistic expectations of what the tech can deliver (or connectivity issues.) Like, if you can't master something that laptops have had a lock on for a decade, then you should probably rethink your design. If you like $20 light bulbs that don't meet expectations, then this is your product. Otherwise, I'm afraid I can't recommend it.
