Works great as long as you understand the switching logic
By Shen on Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2017
Bought 3. Works perfectly so far. Battery charges when light is on. Needs to be on 6 hrs/mo to stay charged, as there is a small leakage current when off. To operate automatically it must be the only light on a switch. A floor lamp or table lamp works perfectly. It can be used in multiple light strings on a common switch but the automatic off feature will not work. I am using ours over the kitchen sink (only light on switch), bed reading light (table lamp with switch), and living room floor lamp. (Individual switch). All of these locations are used regularly so the battery will be charged. The operation is fully automatic in that the light will stay on if switched on, regardless of whether the power has failed. If the light is switched off, it will stay off. It will not come on during a power failure if the light switch is off, which is a big improvement over the small power failure lights that plug into an outlet. You can also use the light in a circuit that has multiple lights connected to the same switch, but you will lose the ability to turn it off with the switch. Where this might be useful is a location where you need light during a failure but do not feel like rewiring. Just move one of these bulbs to the place where you need light and the bulb will illuminate if the switch is on. It will not turn off with the switch. I do this over the kitchen table if I need light during an outage. You can force the bulb to illuminate by shorting the base with a paperclip for testing. Very pleased. The only concern that I have is the long term battery condition. Will be interested to see if they still work in 6 months or a year...

Trouble charging the battery
By Ed Gladysz on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2019
The paper instructions say that the bulb will charge even when the lamp is off. The website says the lamp needs to be on for over 24 hours to charge the battery. So far I cannot get the light bulb to work if it's not in the lamp. I charged the bulb in a lamp that was turned on for 12+ hours. I turned off my circuit breaker to test to see if the bulb would come on in an emergency. With the circuit breaker off, the bulb did not come on. I then attempted to use the bulb as a flashlight. Touched the end. I placed it on a wet towel as demonstrated in their images. The bulb would not light up.
