Updated: Good Customer Service
By David on Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2025
Update: I received a refund from the seller due to the item's condition, which was very generous - great customer service. I think I can comment on the quality of the grinder now and ignore the shipping issues (in the old review below). Updated Review: Build Quality: 4.5/5, plastic barrel knicks this down from 5/5. Feels sturdy in the hand. Aesthetics: 4.5/5, again a slight downgrade due to the plastic. Otherwise it looks and feels nice. Action: 5/5, Grinds a LOT of pepper per turn. Feels smooth. The grind sizes are very good - the finest size is very fine. It is easy to change grind size. A quality product. My only complaint was how it was shipped, hopefully they change that in the future. The pepper grinder was shipped in an envelope with no packaging, so it arrived damaged. Since it was just in the envelope with no protection, it fell apart in transit. The central axel that turns the grinder is bent out of alignment due to shipping damage - it still works, I think, but it is not in new condition. Also, it was full of pepper when it was shipped, so the pepper fell out in transit and it and the various parts of the grinder scratched the stainless steel. All the pepper was just loose in the shipping envelope, but I wasn't necessarily planning on using it anyway - I'm more concerned about the damage to the item. It seems like a decent grinder, but I paid $50 for it and it arrived in essentially used, slightly damaged condition.

Not for the Weak of Hand, but a Quality Item
By Scoot&Uke Dude on Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2025
The Derwent Pepper Mill is a well made quality product. Its grind-size adjustment works properly and consistently disperses appropriately sized grind. The volume of the pepper reserve is large enough to not need frequent filling, but not so big that it allows the peppercorns to become stale. The materials feel like quality and seem well assembled. That being said, unless you have very strong hands, fingers, and grip, you may find it very hard to change the grind size and grind fresh peppercorns on certain settings. If you’re over 70 or have a weaker grip, I’d look elsewhere. Ours was returned.
