Well Worth the Price

I was skeptical about a non-traditional designed non-square sub, It just didn't look aesthetically pleasing. Boy, was I wrong, this thing is lovely. It's well crafted, clean edges, a nice piece of acoustic furniture, for 99 bucks it's some pretty damn good craftsmanship. Sound: now this sub is not gonna induce heart Arrhythmias, but it makes movies and music sound pretty damn good. I keep all settings: volume and crossover at medium and use the receiver the adjust the sub if needed. When the sub is on (auto-sensing) the power light is blue and after 10 minutes without any signal, it turns red when the sub is in standby mode I would definitely buy again if I had to. The packaging included 4 carpet spikes, removable power cord, user manual, and safety use booklet.

Was great, until it fried.

This was a good performing budget sub, until the gain control went bad and I have either 5% gain or 100% gain. Unit is now unusable and out of warranty, after five months of use.

Love it when it turns on

I ordered this when it was the deal of the day. I was super excited to add this to my relatively basic but growing speaker set up. I connected it to a new (<1 year)Yamaha receiver which already had a 2 bookshelf speakers connect to it. The added base was great and I could not have been happier; however, yesterday I returned home from a day at work and the sub would not turn on. I am relatively tech savoy and "research method" minded. I tried multiple outlets and different cords and connections, but nothing fixed the issue. I quick google search suggested that a power capacitor burnt out or perhaps a fuse was blown. All of that circuitry is a bit above my pay grade but Amazon was quick to send a replacement. This time around I plan being exceptionally diligent on turning the sub off when not in use, which will be a bit cumbersome. The sub as a separate on/off switch than the receiver itself. It also has an auto option (guessing to make the power on/off universal) but it did not do me much good. Maybe I am just dumb and don't deserve bass? Maybe my neighbors broke in and snipped something? I don't know ha Best of luck Summary: The sound is INCREDIBLE, if and only if, it turns on.
Thank you, JBL!

Since my mother-in-law moved in with us last May, she has pretty much taken over our living room home theater and spends her days getting sloshed on cheap chardonnay while watching TV about 16-18 hours a day. My wife has taken to retreating to our bedroom upstairs to watch TV on the little 26" TV we had up there. So, for Christmas this year I installed a new 55" 4K TV, a 4K upscaling blu ray player, a JBL SB100 sound bar and this fantastic little JBL Arena S10, 100-watt subwoofer in our bedroom. When I demonstrated the new system for my wife, she was amazed by the clarity and the output of the subwoofer, as the floor under her feet thumped and vibrated heavily with sounds of The Band's live concert, "The Last Waltz" blu ray disc that I was using for the demontration. She was concerned that it might be disturbing her mom downstairs while she was watching TV in our living room. My wife went downstairs to check and see how much sound vibration was coming through the bedroom floor/ceiling above the living room and apparently it was thumping pretty good, even at the low volume I had it on. She asked my mother-in-law if it was bothering her, to which my mother-in-law replied in a rather annoyed tone, "Well, if I knew that was going to be going on, I certainly wouldn't be sitting here trying to watch TV!" Mission accomplished. Two birds with one stone/JBL subwoofer. My wife is happily enjoying her new bedroom theater system and my mother-in-law is getting a taste of Karma. Thank you, JBL! Your speakers have NEVER disappointed me.

Not the same as what's in the photo.

I plugged it in and it emits a loud clicking/humming sound, even when the system is off. It's going back. I also realized it's an older model, not the same as the picture. The manufacture date is 2015.
Not designed for use with old school stereo setups - make sure to understand the hookup

I bought this in the hope that it would augment the stereo studio monitor speakers I use while digitizing vinyl. Unfortunately for my purposes it's designed to work with 5:1 or 7:1 surround sound setups that provide a mono line-level output intended to drive a subwoofer. This isn't what I have, so I returned it. This is in no way a condemnation of the product when used in the right set up - I have two other pairs of JBL stereo speakers in my home and I really like their gear. This subwoofer just wasn't meant for the kind of setup I have. I ultimately bought the Polk 10" unit that Amazon also sells and that works fine. I could not have been happier with how the return was handled by Amazon. Can't believe they paid to ship this heavy monster to me and back again.
Dig the JBL Quality; it’s there in spades with a little knob twisting!

Naysayers, have another listen. I have used this thing for 4 months and I love it. Of course, it takes 5 minutes of work; balancing and rebalancing and then you find THE SOUND! As mighty as you need, as clear as the sea in Bora Bora, and a good deal! Yes, carve out some lower-mids. And find the sweet spot in the Q control they give you; my speaker has wonderful wood sound, and JBL quality, and that LOW END that I bought it for . Sure, I could buy a $20,000 subwoofer; this is a hundred bucks. And it’s like a new guitar-every one will have a different wood sound. But it’s a hundred bucks right here!
... Home theater subwoofer I have owned and am very pleased with the purchase

This is the first Home theater subwoofer I have owned and am very pleased with the purchase. There were simple to follow instructions on how to connect and the packaging was nice and tight. At first, I listened to my stereo which already had 2 tower speakers and 2 bookshelf speakers at half volume and thought to myself, "how much better could this possibly sound?" Then, I paused, flipped the switch on the back of this bad boy, hit play and was blown away. Cognitive dissonance... eliminated. I will never be without a subwoofer for home theater again and am considering getting another one. The bass is clear, full, and rich without clutter. To imagine a subwoofer even better than this makes me happy given my cost of $109 (new and on sale).

I have been using sound bars and a Yamaha sound base for the past several years and while the sound is naturally better than the TV speakers. I have always found these lacking in regards to customizing the sound, especially the center channel for voice. Bought a Yamaha RX-V383BL 5.1-Channel receiver, dusted off two small book shelf speakers that were in storage and use a Bose center speaker that a friend gave to me. Needed a sub woofer and purchased this JBL based on a friends recommendation and very happy with the entire set up. We listen almost entirely for the TV and the sub woofer has very nice, clean lows, can go way louder than what I have it set at and really compliments the sound. Bear in mind that this is definitely a budget system, I am not very critical, but this JBL has more bass than I will ever use and to me was a great buy.

OMG, this thing is AWESOME. My old Radio Shack PSW finally gave up the gohost so decided to treat my bad self to a JBL...hey, cadillac, man. Heavy as hell, bulky. Plugged it in, powered up the Sony 7.1, put on "Tusk" and thanked god I had kept it turned low. My old PSW just kinda thumped, ya know what I mean, Scotty? This think delivered the smoothest, sweetest, most sexy sensual bass to my waiting ears I have ever experienced. The notes danced as they fell upon the floor with unrepentant intent. I got a little brave and cranked it to about 20%. Things on the dining room table shook and my wife screamed "earthquake". Okay, I lied about the last part. I cannont wait to watch Jurassic Park on this. The T-rex will trully live again.
