This Fan Is Not Just Another Pretty Face
By James B Green on Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2019
I JUST can’t spend 300 bucks on a fan can I? I’ll wait till the price goes down. Years later, I finally pull the trigger and purchase this refurb from Amazon. I want this review to accomplish 2 things. How good is the product? And how did said product arrive as a refurbished unit. I know a lot of you hesitate when it comes to buying a refurb at this price. Well get that out of the way first. I ALMOST did not order this on the strength of one review and its set of pictures. The reviewer was (justly) upset at how his refurbished product looked. Multiple scratches and gouges. Like the reviewer, I know refurb does not mean immaculate. But it also doesn't mean throw it back in a box as is, don't even wipe it down. That’s not an exaggeration of the product they received. My package arrived the customary 2nd day in the usual plain Amazon smiley box. The Dyson was packaged in a plain brown box within. The parts and pieces were all held down with no chance of shifting during shipment. There was extra care in making sure the product was protected. It couldn’t have been packaged any more secure that that it was. Opening said box and extracting the fan and its parts, I note that it is extraordinarily clean. After examination, I only found 1 noticeable scratch on the underside of the top part of the "ring". It’s not visible without leaning the fan back to see it. And it’s almost invisible after the application of a rag and some Windex. Putting the fan together consists of putting the ring on top of the motor and twisting until it clicks. Now it’s ready to blow. To close out the refurb part of the review, I could not be happier with the initial appearance. I expected a noticeably used product, but I'm happy to say, not many people would have known it was a refurbished unit. Obviously, I can't speak to its dependability until a proper amount of time has been spent with it (I will update this review). But so far, the Dyson refurb looks as good as new. Now, on to actually USING the thing. Quick impressions: MUCH quieter than I thought. Much more air movement than I thought. I’ve seen this in a couple of reviews "the airflow feels different, like a constant cool breeze" and that is a good way to describe it. I swear it feels cooler that airflow from a normal fan. I have no scientific facts to back up such a statement, but it does feel cooler. The most unexpected aspect of the fan was when I placed the fan at the back of the room, tilting it upward. I put it in this position to see what type of circulation it would create. I’m happy to report that it was more than adequate in this aspect also. Again, I can't speak to the fans dependability as this is just an initial review. That being said, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. It seems this fan is more than just a pretty face. PS – Being that person who constantly loses his keys or wallet, I am really appreciative of the remote control storage spot. Placing it near the apex of the ring will see the remote pulled to the center magnet with a satisfying click. My co-workers says that I will still lose it. Time will tell, but I appreciate this little perk.

Not worth the money

There was no remote. It wasn’t in the box. Amazon put me round after round with conversations on one call today. I decided to NOT send it BACK... I don’t have the time. They would send another remote... I had to buy a replacement for 30 bucks, it’s not even the name brand. The box didn’t even have a warranty.
