I can Grill to my heart's Delight!
By Jillian on Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2019
Love, love, love and did I say "love" this electric grill!! It's probably my favorite kitchen appliance ever. I bought it for Christmas, and have used it so many times since, that I can't even recall. Easy to clean is one reason why I enjoy using this so often. Another, is it is extremely simple to set up and operate! The convenience in "grilling" so many different foods on this is amazing. The taste of the foods grilled on this appliance has been exceptional rather than just "fine or good". Although the surface space of grill is smaller than I would prefer, and I do think that an extra few inches in both length and width would accommodate much more, the current size is ample enough to cook a variety of kinds of foods, but the main portions, to serve just about 2-3 people, or less depending on what you are grilling. For example 2 decent Ribeye Steaks, Or 2 NY Strips (fill up grill space), Or the same with 4 6oz. lobster tails, Or 5 or 6 generously skewered Shish-kabobs. On the other hand, one can also grill ahead asparagus, and other veggies, set aside and then reheat, or add side dishes via stovetop, oven, microwave, etc.,. Also, no matter What I have grilled on here, including bacon wrapped foods, there has been zero smoke. Excess liquids are Not to be spilled over the foods and through the grill. Be sure to read your directions. Marinate your foods that need marinating, PrioR to placing on the electric grill, and they will still cook great. I've done this several times, even with the meats that don't suggest marinating, but which I'd still like to soak in a desired sauce, mix, liquid, etc.,. This is a terrific product, and I highly recommend it for it's ease of use, convenience, and the flavorful, delightful foods I can cook on it !! Bonus- *It also has a "warmer" option to keep your already grilled foods warm without further cooking them, while you wait to serve them, or are fixing something else.

One use - glass is dirty, and cannot clean it
By Peter on Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2020
So, it comes with 50% discount, and now I can see why. The glass covering the heating lamps got smoked from a single use (salmon + drop of olive oil), and there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY you can clean it. And I didn't even get to real BBQ, no steaks, no ribs, no long-cooking stuff. Give it 10-15 uses (basically, one summer), and has a good chance to be unusable. Well, I will probably see it myself. Returning it sounds like huge hassle - you have to contact the seller, get approved for return, you won't get your money back in full etc. You will be able to read all the details when you attempt a return. """Clean up your electric grill in less than a minute!. Either wipe the grid clean or place it in the dishwasher. Cleaning a grill has never been easier""" - this is not even funny. Make sure you understand: they are talking about the GRILL; the heating device is a different story :) Besides all that, the temperature doesn't seem to be very high - but that remains to be seen. It was just right to cook fish without even a chance to burn it, full heat was quite mild - meaning, it's probably a bit weak to sear a steak. (Frankly, I would accept this part - it's kind of Ok for the price.) Well, a good lesson for me: buying appliances on Amazon is still a risk; Amazon policies or not, but at the end, you are at the seller's mercy. In a regular store you can just RETURN it - no questions asked. What happened to old good customer service, not to mention the quality? What about "customer obsession", Amazon? What if third party sellers are not obsessed about customer as much as Amazon? Hope this helps other people to not make the same mistake.

This Grill is a Keeper

Recently we moved to a condominium, which we discovered that due to ceiling fire sprinkler systems and balconies, grilling outdoors on the patios is not permitted. Being frustrated since I like to grill, I did extensive internet searching and purchased an electric I hoped I could use indoors. Without mentioning the brand, it had reversible plates and an adjustable top section that you pressed down cooking both top and bottom at the same time. As an alternative, you could simply leave the top section opened up to grill. I tried hamburgers using the method of pushing the top down and it soon created an indoor smoke storm throughout myentire condo while scorching the burgers. After cleanup, running the kitchen exhaust fan on high and the A/C, I returned the product but never gave up. I came upon the Phillips product and after reading many positive reviews, I purchased it in April and had to wait until May 7th since they were sold out. I also ordered the Instant Thermometer displayed on this listed here.Alpha Grillers Instant Read Thermometer. Ultra Fast Digital Cooking Tool With BBQ Internal Meat Temperature Chart. (Spring Loaded Thermabud). As it turns out, the thermometer is essential for steaks and chicken. The bottom line is I'm thrilled at the performance. The person who gave this a one star may have read the directions improperly. I saw, turn on warm for 2 seconds, then on full heat, and pt on the items to cook. It take a few minutes to get going and then you must be attentive. I grilled Ballpark franks and they plumped up, blacked and split the way we like them. My sirloin burgers were overdone the first time and were dry. The next time I used the Alpha Grillers thermometer carefully and removed the burgers just before they hit 165 degrees. They were juicy and delicious. My boneless rib eye steaks were done to a perfect medium rare with sizzled grill marks. I made chicken kabobs and after awhile realized it would cook more thoroughly by grilling the chicken and veggies by removing the wooden sticks. I have used the grill on my stove top with a low exhaust fan and also on the junction corner of my counter top to keep it out from under the cabinets. I held my hand above the grill about 6 to 8 inches to see how hot it might be and amazingly it was only warm. I had no actual splattering occur and only noticed a small sheen of cleanup on my granite counter top probably from a fine mist that settled there. After cooling down, clean up was simple. Don't use metal grill utensils on the grill. Remove it, wipe off the top and bottom over your disposal, then squirt it off with hot water and place into the dishwasher. Remove the grease tray and wipe it out with paper towel, use your non-metal flipper to scrap off any excess stuck on debris, squirt it off and put into the dishwasher. Then I used a damp kitchen washcloth with some dawn dish detergent on it to rub off the inside edges of the grill. Voila. This whole process was under 10 minutes. Everything came out clean and you simply put it aside until the next use. You couldn't pay me to give this product back!

I don't write a lot of product reviews, but this is one I can get really enthusiastic about. We are Manhattan city dwellers and love to grill. That's a problem because we live in an apartment building, and have no outdoor space, and no exhaust hood. I've learned to sear and broil meats and fish, but sometimes you need a grill... I considered many options - blowtorch, illegal hibachi on my fire escape, etc. But nothing could scratch the itch. Finally!! here is finally a HOT indoor grill that combines ambient, aerated heat with an iron grill surface that is easy to clean! It doesn't smoke up the kitchen any more than your stovetop range, and can seriously char some meat! It gets really, really hot. Of course this won't impart a charcoal flavor to your food. But it's much better than any George-Foreman-esque grill which are really just panini presses, to be honest. This one allows a lot of heat to grill and roast food while providing ample space above and below for food to aerate - which gives you a crisp crusty charred finish to fish and meat. This is DRY HEAT. That's what a grill is for. The product uses some kind of infrared convection technology. The trick is that the heat is emanating is situated above the pan where the drippings fall. That means the drippings do not heat, and don't sizzle. Hence no smoke. The food might smoke a little up top, but it won't create a cloud in your kitchen. Just enough for you to smell what you're having for dinner. Yum! Caveat: I am cooking for two. This isn't a great solution for a barbecue party for 10 people. You want to give your food some good space on the grill - don't crowd the lamb chops! So far we've tried some chicken skewers which I marinated in soy, sesame, and sugar. The first skewer actually overcooked in under 8 minutes! The second one got a better sear, and was moist and delicious. We also grilled a whole stuffed branzino. I used no oil, get the skin nice and crispy. It was some of the best grilled fish we've ever had. Winner Winner Fish Dinner. Cleanup is a cinch. The drippings tray pulls out goes into the dish washer. The grill comes off and goes into the dishwasher. I reward my hard work with another glass of wine. Hope you enjoy your Phillips Smokeless Indoor Grill as much as we have! Cheers.

This grill is super easy to use. It has 2 settings: heating mode and warming mode. It cooks pretty much everything and leaves grill marks which gives it the effect of an actual outdoor grill. It truly is smoke free. However, if you have marinade on your meats, the char will eventually start to smoke up so be sure to clean it after each batch. The after cleaning is super easy too. It helps using a nylon brush to scrub it without damaging the grates. I gave it a 4 star review because the infrared light is super distracting and bright. You can’t really see the true color of the meat on there. You have to remove the meat in order to see it browning or not. But otherwise, it’s great. We use this at least 1-2x per week.
Apartment grilling!

So we had to move into an apartment for 4 months because our house sold and we are waiting for the construction on the new one to finish. The complex we are in does not allow personal barbeques which was daunting since we basically live off of grilled chicken, fish, turkey, steak, etc. I got this after watching some YouTube videos about it and figured that anything had to be better than only having the ability to bake meat or cook it in a pan (yuk!). Ya know what? This contraption is pretty damn awesome. I've made three meals on it so far: grilled chicken breasts, grilled mahi mahi and grilled chicken thighs. All had some sort of marinade and seasoning on them and none caused any smoke issues at all. Two of the most important things to remember to do with this is: (a) preheat, preheat, preheat - I go for 7-10 minutes; and (b) to make cleanup a breeze, let the drip pan and grate soak in hot soapy water while you eat. Cleanup has been super easy because we let it soak. So, yeah, it's not a regular barbeque, but it's a damn good replacement. I'm glad I bought this!

This grill is fantastic! SO much better than the Tfal Optigrill or George Foreman-types that compress the food. I stopped using my Optigrill for anything but bacon once I purchased the Philips grill. No, this model does not have the wire grid, but I have never needed it. Everything cooks great on the BBQ grid. Make sure you preheat it for 6-7 mins. This grill gets very hot, but the infrared heat somehow seems to be "gentler" on the food. Chicken breasts, hot dogs, lamb chops, grilled veggies have all been delicious. I use it out on the balcony of my condo, but I never leave it out there...always bring it inside for cleaning/storage. Very easy to clean the BBQ grid and the drip tray. The residue that's left on the reflectors can be removed with two products by Weiman that I found at my local Safeway--Glass Cook Top cleaner and Cook Top Scrubbing pads. Five stars for convenience and performance! Haven't found any other electric grill that even comes close to this one. Edit: I've decided a 10-minute preheat is mandatory for the best results.

I had been looking at this for some time now. I watched every infomercial and individual review on YouTube. My apartment is very tiny. My attempts to grill indoors using my cast iron pan resulted in a kitchen full of smoke and the screeching of my smoke detector:-( What made go ahead and place an order was a dramatic price reduction on Amazon. The price went overnight from $248 to $139. Even if this grill performed half as good as advertised, I wouldn't be out all that much. I am pleased to report that it has wonderfully. I've never written an Amazon recommendation before but based on my cooking experiences to date, I wanted to share with all of you. The grill took only a few minutes to unpack and set up. My only problem was that even though this is not terribly large, I didn't have anywhere to try it out other than on an end table in my living room. I may order a wheeled kitchen cart in the future. As advertised, turning the power setting to high immediately resulted in a tremendous glow of infrared light. Wow! That really knocked my socks off! I didn't have that much in my refrigerator but wound up putting on a couple of chicken breasts lightly brushed with oil and seasoned with salt and pepper, and some sliced peppers and onions. Because I was using boneless breasts with the skin on, I DID have a bit of smoke. Not as much as I would have had cooking them in a pan, but certainly not smoke-free. There IS a difference between smokeless and smoke-less! once I flipped the chicken so that the skinless side was on the grill plate, the smoke disappeared. I think that in the future I will not brush my chicken with oil, or stick to the skinless variety. In any case, the chicken had nice grill marks. The vegetables came out perfectly. The next night I decided to try cooking a New York strip. Halfway through cooking on the first side, I rotated the steak 45 degrees to get some professional grill marks. Served along with a baked sweet potato and some corn, it was a great meal. The next morning I decided to grill some bacon, along with some french toast, made with my own Irish Soda Bread. It came out perfectly. I decided to line the drip pan with aluminum foil, in order to avoid cleaning up bacon fat. I should say that other than my first trial, I've had no smoke to speak of. I did wind up placing the grill on my stovetop, just to avoid cooking in my living room, and just in case there WAS any smoke. Today I grilled Turkish style pork kabobs, marinated in yogurt and spices, They came out perfectly. I've got some chicken wings marinating in a Tandoori marinate for tomorrow, I have no doubt that they will be delicious! I might try cooking some Chapattis or Parathas to see how they turn out. I also have some eggplant, zucchini, and some chillie peppers waiting to grill. Okay so, all in all, I have zero doubts in recommending the Phillips Smoke-less Grill. Oh, I forgot to mention that cleanup was easy as pie.
One star lost to shoddy cleaning instructions. Still, it's the real deal.

OK, I've been using this product for about two weeks, grilling hamburgers, toasting buns, and even grilling shrimp. Here's my take on the product. Heat: Perfect! This works just like a charcoal grill, except that there are no flare-ups. Smoke: Less! As the description implies, it puts out less smoke. The drip tray still gets hot enough for the drippings to simmer, but nothing seems to really burn down there. Beef fat still makes little "dripsicles" that hang from the grill just like you'd see on a charcoal or gas grill, and these tend to get crispy and smokey. I managed to set off the smoke detector with it once, and I'm not sure if it was from a well-toasted bun (not burnt, just well-toasted, ha!) or from smokey fumes coming from the hot surfaces. Mess: Yep, burgers still cause a little spattering around the grill, but that's just the nature of the beast. There's nothing to shield the contents of your countertop around this grill. Plan accordingly. Cleanup: Speaking of spattering... the chrome around the top gets a little dirty, as do the exterior sides, at least from burgers. The nonstick grilling surface is super-easy to wash by hand, and it fits in the dishwasher just fine too. I really wish the drip pan had a nonstick finish so the rendered beef fat and drippings would slide right off after it cools down. Still, it comes clean pretty easily after using a paper towel to push the heavy stuff into the trash. You definitely don't want to dump that down the drain unless you really miss seeing your plumber between visits. Cleaning the interior is a little more difficult, requiring the same tools you'd use to clean a ceramic cooktop. The manufacturer's website recommends using a scraper on the chromed sides, which will scratch the finish. Liquid ceramic cooktop cleaner will dissolve any build-up on both the glass panes and the chrome side panels. Storage: It's big. Much bigger than the Griddler or a Foreman Grill. The dimensions listed in the Product Description are accurate. There's no making it any smaller, except maybe if you stored the removable grilling surface elsewhere, and that's only going to shave about 1.5 inches (4 cm) off the height. It's too big to easily store in a cabinet, so it lives on top of my toaster oven when the oven's not in use. If you have a relatively high ceiling, maybe you can store yours on top of your cabinets.
