Fun putting together and a good conversation piece.

This was the first type of 3D puzzle I've put together. The directions are professionally (better than Ikea) illustrated and language independent. The packaging is very efficient. The wood is top grade laser plywood and the laser cutting is precise and clean (no residue smoke burns). Take time to pop out parts, minor tearout with tabs, but nothing critical. No glue required, but you you'll need a candle (we used Minwax) as lubricant. My wife and I had fun with it, taking our time it took about 2 hours (along with a glass or two of wine). The interlocking mechanisms are pretty ingenious, very impressed. I was concerned that the axels were made from toothpicks, but after a month or so of playing with it, it works great. The gears mesh nicely and it has momentum (from flywheel). Everyone who's seen it has been compelled to play with it. Instead of business cards, we put Altoids in it and made it a candy dispenser.

I wouldn’t recommend it :(

What a horrible experience , I actually got injured in my attempt at putting this thing together — One of the toothpicks stabbed my index finger twice really deep and drew blood as I was trying to fit the toothpicks ( axel ) between some really snug pieces. Despite the bloodshed and pain, those were to no avail simply because there’s a defect in the manufacturing and design as these toothpicks are about a half size too big for the holes in these! I used wax — soy candle wax and normal candle wax but both didn’t work. I even had to use sandpaper ( not provided in kit, I had to use my own) to sand down the toothpicks but they still wouldn’t fit! I didn’t give up and stupidly kept trying because I really wanted this to work as a Xmas gift. However I gave up when one of the toothpicks broke INSIDE the holes with no way of trying to even disassemble the piece. My advice — DO NOT BOTHER WASTING YOUR TIME! Like me you may just feel discouraged and immensely frustrated all for nothing :( I really wanted this to work!i am so discouraged now from doing any more models even though I had an ok experience with the music box ! One thing is for sure — this thing is going back!
