Great tent… some suggestions
By A.S. on Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2023
We borrowed this tent for a family camping trip and loved it so much that we bought the exact same one. I compared it to all of the the other ones within the same size and relative price point and chose this one happily. The good: This tent was very fairly priced and a good deal. It’s huge inside, including a high ceiling. While we didn’t sleep 9 people in this 9 person tent, it was really great for all of us and gear too. I *love* the added touch of the mesh storage loft and the 2 net storage pockets inside. The hanging hook in the center of the ceiling for a lantern is also a great touch! The spacious bag is awesome with plenty of room to pack it back up without having to struggle to squeeze it in like many products out there! One of the big reasons I liked this tent was the huge mesh screens that cover the ceiling and dip down to the corners of the walls. This allowed for a great breeze on the hot summer nights we camped. We didn’t put up the rain fly since there was no rain and needed the airflow. Note that I can’t comment on the waterproofing or water resistance of this tent because of this. My recommendations to improve: It comes with 2 patches but no instructions on how to use them. I'd like to see an option to buy this with aluminum poles. I'm always concerned about the fiberglass ones breaking. This tent would be even better with 2 more mesh storage pockets inside. With a 9 person tent you’d bet that more than 2 pockets would be useful. I’m not complaining, just suggesting to make it even better. I’d also love to see zip up panels to close the “windows” of the mesh ceiling that dips down near the corners of the tent. This would be great for privacy for when you don’t want to put up the actual rain fly that does fully cover it. I’m imagining something similar to the zip up panel that closes the back window and the front window on the door. I would *really love* to see a tent with magnetic closure of the door for quick entries and exits. Let’s face it, this is a 9 person tent and likely kids will be using it. Our kids love to run in and out every minute and the zippers of tents are just annoying - they’re slow to open and fully close each time, they get stuck in the fabric and it’s just a matter of time until they’ll break. I saw something in another tent that talked about a magnetic door closure but turns out it’s only the bottom corner of the door that magnets shut. So close! I’m thinking that good strong magnets could be sewn into the fabric near the edges of the entire door so that they would hold the door basically closed for quick use - this would basically keep out bugs and allow for privacy. And when you want to properly close the door fully then you would use the full zipper. I’m probably going to sew my own magnets in to try it. Wish me luck!

A good starter tent
By Steve on Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2016
This is a good starter tent. It is pretty easy to assemble and it is huge. It also has some nice features like large windows and a huge screened roof, a "D" shaped door ("T" shaped doors have a gap where the zippers meet that allow water/critters to get in), a floor vent, electrical access, and good storage. However, it is missing one key feature: a tub floor to prevent water pooling on the ground from leaking in through the seams. Once erected, the seam is pulled off the ground in some areas which is why it appears to have a tub floor in the pictures, though the seam is at ground level in the corners. The tent also has good headroom but it drops off quickly on the sides. I ended up returning this tent because I found several snags and at least one small hole in the screened roof when I assembled the tent to inspect it. Rather than risk getting a replacement with similar problems, I opted to pay $15 more and get the Coleman Montana 8-person tent, which feels better made, though there are a few tradeoffs. The Core is 2' larger (9'x16' vs 7'x16') but the Montana feels like it has more usable space since the roof does not taper off as quickly. The Montana also offers a tub floor and a rigid door, though it has smaller/fewer windows. The one feature I do miss is the floor vent, but that is available in the Montana "Elite" which also costs significantly more. The Core's rain fly covers the windows but that allows them to be opened with the rainfly in place for ventilation. The Montana's windows are not covered by the rain fly which means they must be closed when it is raining, but that means you can open to see outside even with the rain fly in place. The Montana does have a much larger awning though which allows the door window to be opened while it is raining. I think either the Core or the Montana are good tents, it just depends what you are looking for. I did deduct one star from my rating because it does not have a tub floor which is a pretty common feature these days. I deducted a second star because ours had imperfections in the screened roof. Since I drew comparisons to the Montana, I should probably state that I also gave that tent a 3 star rating (though I may change the rating once I have used the tent). I think the Montana is slightly better but it had a bad elastic band in one of the poles which, along with a poor warranty replacement experience, resulted in similar deductions.

Absolute unit of a tent. Camped during a hurricane

I cannot praise this tent enough for the price.Bought this tent on sale for 170 bucks. Me and my friends planned a trip to go down to Daniel boone forest in kentucky and camp for 3 days 3 nights. We planned this trip in March 6 months prior. The weekend we went is when hurricane helene hit. We said screw it and went through with it knowing the risks. First day we get down there we set it up in the rain and took 30 minutes to do which is not bad for me personally lol. It then proceeded to rain moderately to severe for the next 24 hours straight. This tent had less leakage than every other tent my other friends brought and they were coleman tents! Theirs had huge puddles and leaks by the morning but this tent proceeded to have little to no leakage. The small water droplets that were inside the tent was probably there from when we set it up anyways. The second day proceeded with rain; however, there was a severe wind and storm warning. 25-70 mph wind gusts! Let me tell you I was incredibly impressed when this tent proceeded to take these wind gusts LIKE A BOSS! No damage, stakes were still in the ground and didnt move an inch, rain cover still attached, and very minor water leakage again! The third day, the hurricane had mostly passed and only had small showers and drizzling rain. Absolutely no issues on the third day of course. My expectations being exceeded is an understatement! I will say 1 very minor criticism of this tent is the zipper handles kept falling out from the door zippers but you could still zip them without the handle. That's it. If you are looking for a robust, large tent for the family or 3-5 big and tall adults to sleep very comfortably, look no further. I cannot praise this tent enough for the price and performance.

Worked great while we had it. It was tall enough for all of us to stand in and very easy to put up/tear down. It never leaked for us and the design was durable.

I purchased this for a camping trip in Big Sur which is usually a colder area that can have rain in early spring. Setting it up for the first time was very straightforward and felt very spacious as the tent size is 7x7. I had no issues with its durability as it withstood some light to moderate rain. Some issues I have with it is the gap between the rainfly and the wall. I found that much of the wind blowing was coming up from under the rainfly and made the tent significantly colder. This is good for summer camping bit in colder conditions it can be quite uncomfortable. A good tip is to lean something against the wall to close that gap or to face the door against the wind. Doing this made the tent significantly warmer and will consider adding some Velcro to close that gap. Doing this however creates a LOT of condensation that leaves water on the inside walls. Another issue is with the zipper, it has a lip on the inside that transitions to another lip on the outside, this transitions makes the tent difficult to open and close which can be a bit annoying. A really cool feature related to the door is a mesh screen that takes up a third of the top of the door that can be opened so you can peek out without having to fully open the tent. A cool plus was with the pockets on the inside and the net in the ceiling that has 2 kinds of hooks to hang anything from lanterns, keys, etc. The material is not thin nor thick and is pretty much the same as any tent whether that’d be a 25 dollar tent or a 500 dollar tent. The water resistant coating does help in some rain but I’d doubt it’d hold up in strong winds or sideways rain. Overall a great tent for the price.
Great customer service, nice tent, decent material, feels sturdy, mediocre ventilation.

I ordered this tent and it arrived on time with no issues. Upon first set up, before going camping, I discovered one of the long poles was missing the metal base that the tent anchors slide into during my initial setup, so I reached out to Core customer service and spoke with a representative. The rep was awesome and acknowledged my issue and offered a replacement for the part, under warranty, provided I give proof of purchase and a picture of the damaged part, via email. Once received, the replacement part was in the mail and arrived in two days. Customer service was excellent. I took the tent out camping with my girlfriend and my dog. This tent is huge, which is what we wanted. We had two cots and a dog crate in the tent with us. There was plenty of room to stand up, though I'm 5'10". The wings made perfect nooks for myself and my girlfriend with plenty of room for our remaining stuff. There was enough room that 4 people with two queen sized air mattresses could fit comfortably in this tent, with some room in between. Our cot's feet pushed the base of the tent into the soft ground with no ripping or tearing. It appears to have held up nicely. We had rain the first night, though not a storm of any sorts. The inside of the tent remained dry. Ventilation in the tent is lacking. There is only two windows, the door and the back wall, with the rain fly up. I think improvements could be made here as the tent will get hot when the sun gets on it. I feel that this tent will hold up just fine in cooler weather. We were faced with 95* degree days in mid Missouri and hanging out in the tent would not be enjoyable (who does that during the day anyway). The rain fly is time consuming to set up, but works sufficiently. Overall, the tent is ok to set up in terms of difficulty. A single person who has experience setting up tents will have no issues. There are 4 body poles and one for the front of the rain fly. The stakes provided with the tent are your typical tent stakes. I would always recommend bringing extras or more sturdy stakes. The tent was easy to tear down and put away. After folding in the wings, I folded the tent into tight thirds before rolling it up, which allowed it to fit just fine in the bag. The bag is very typical material and I would expect the possibility of rips from standard wear and tear. Nothing exceptional, nothing lacking. I did not feel at any point in time that the tent was going to rip, tear, or collapse once staked down and set up. Overall, it's a solid tent. I'd like to weather a storm in it and see how it holds up.

I ordered this tent as a Father's Day gift. I looked for a tent with plenty of room, durability and sturdiness. We got it set up (it took us about 30 minutes) for a family camping event for the 4th of July. My daughter is breastfeeding her baby and so we wanted the tent to be easy to go in and easy to go out, along with privacy. What we found was that the tent has a little porthole type opening that is labeled for an electrical cord and will allow you to Velcro back around that cord to keep bugs and animals from coming in that hole. I didn't know it had this when I ordered it, but what a nice surprise to find this, as it allowed us to put a fan in the tent for my daughter while breastfeeding. This was definitely a score! But after the festivities of the 4th of July and everyone left the tent was truly put to the test because we had an event of an upcoming thunderstorm with heavy winds and rains, and the only place we had to go for safety was in the tent. This tent was unbelievably strong and durable. As the winds blew and what seemed like we may be taken with the wind, this tent did not move... It did sway two and fro in the top but it's base. Did not give way short of one pin. The waters from a nearby pond breached the dam and got under our tent a couple of feet, but this tent never leaked at all. I would purchase this tent over and over again and give it high recommendations for anyone looking for a great buy on a great tent. I would give it higher than five stars if that were an option. A++

nice tent. very roomy. I like being outside but do not like getting sunburned or bitten by bugs. this tent zips up securely. it is my home away from home. I have a chair and a small table and electricity and an air mattrass. before you get the tent buy a tarp to go under it. I got 2 6x8 and laced them together. I got them at the local big box and did not write down the tent size. they were just right. now for the tent stakes. THROW THEM AWAY. I took one look at them and realizes they were useless. I have had 2 sports brellas since 2012 that I have used to death. they keep the sun off but do not help with bugs. I dug out the tent stakes from the sports brellas and used the junk ones for the tarp and the rain fly, they are ok for the tarp but do not use them for rain fly. we got two days of torrential rain and heavy wind. the joke tent pegs attached to the rain fly pulled loose pulled loose and I did get rain in the tent.. otherwise everything stood up very well. putting it up was a bit of a bear.. get the tarp on the ground, lay the tent out ant stake the corners with the good stakes you purchased . put the long and short rods threw the correct pockets. this is important. the bottom of the rain fly has velcro. while it still on the ground attach the rain fly with the velcro to the tent. otherwise you end up trying to toss a very slippery king sized piece of fabric six feet in the air over another piece of slippery fabric. this activity will produce a signifilcant amount of swearing and amusement for the neighbors. at this point as i am not very tall i got my husband to get in the tent and hold up the middle while i wrestled the long and short poles into the eye screws attached to the tent peg. you will need to use these pegs that come with the tent. it is an odd setup but it works. throw the rest away. there was some swearing at this point as it is difficult to get the poles hooked into the the little eye things but both the tent and i survived set it up so the windows are in the path of the prevailing wind so you get nice breeze and enjoy.
Good budget summer car camping tent for a family

The review for this is relative to this being an economy tent. I used to do a lot of tent camping and have a couple higher end two and three person tents to compare this with. This is not a high quality tent that will stand up to years of heavy use. I will get into that later, but first the good things. My kids are now large and somewhat smelly teenagers and and I decided to get a larger tent for a one week summer car camping trip where space and weight was not a consideration. I wanted a tent that would fit a queen air mattress and two twin air mattresses with enough space left for gear and to move around. This tent is cavernous. It fit all three mattresses fine and gear with space to move and some left over. I would not want to be in this with 8 other people, but it a great size for a family of 4. If the weather was bad we could have easily piled up the air mattresses and comfortably sat in the tent playing cards with a standard folding table and camp chairs. I am 5' 8" and my son is 6' 1" and we could walk around it no problem and only needed to stoop a little out toward the wings. The entire top of the tent is mesh. One night we had assured clear weather it was nice to take off the fly and look at the stars. The mesh top also helps keep down condensation, but on the flip side is can be a little breezy and there is basically zero warmth afforded by the structure. This was fine for a summer trip but might be an issue in the spring and fall. There are mesh gear pouches on the inside and a dedicated opening for an extension cord. Didn't use that, but it is there. One feature is is that it has an "air vent", which is a mesh panel near the bottom with a flap so water does not get in. Since the entire top of the tent is mesh and the fly does not fit super tight, I am not sure that this is needed but it is there. After one practice run in the back yard with minimal head scratching, the tent went up in a couple minutes without any trouble with two people. It was easy to take down and I didn't have any problem getting to to roll up and fit back in the included carry bag with the fly and pole bag. One person could set this up by themselves but it was way easier with two. It is a large tent and relatively heavy but not bad given the size. You are not hiking this anywhere but it is great for car camping. It rained lightly two nights. We stayed dry with the fly on but the fly just barely covers the mesh on top and down the sides. If we didn't have the fly securely tided and staked I do think that water would have dripped in. I don't think this would be a great tent in hard rain or high winds. So when I say this is a budget tent this is what I mean...The entire top of the tent is mesh and the mesh is relatively large, particularly compared to high end tents. This kept out the larger bugs but small (luckily non-biting) midges came as went as they please. If we were in an area with aggressive mosquitoes or no-see-um gnats we probably would have been eaten alive. The poles are super cheap. I was surprised when they didn't snap when we put it up. The shock cord is not very taut and the poles come apart when you push and pull them through the nylon sleeves when you set it up. The included tent stakes are minimal and completely inadequate but that is basically the same for every other tent out there. I always use high end aftermarket stakes anyway. The door zipper jammed pretty easily and was not as smooth as you get on better tents. The bottom of the tent is basically plastic tarp material. It held up fine during our trip, but once it rips I doubt it could be repaired like you can with higher end tents. In summary, this is a fine budget tent with some nice features for a summer family care camping trip where there are not a super lot of biting insects.

Took this camping recently, and for the price, this tent is quite nice. Lots of space, and easy to set up and tear down (especially with 2 people). We had a family of 4 (kids around age 10), each with big sleeping pads. There was plenty of room to sleep and store our stuff. Here are the downsides, though, if I'm being picky: - The top of the tent is mostly screen, which provides some nice views/air. However, you can't get any privacy (i.e. there are no zip windows on these screens) unless you put on the rainfly (and the rainfly isn't easy on/off). So if you want to use the screens for additional ventilation or views, you're kind of out of luck. - It rained a few times while we were camping, and there are four seams (left and right of door, and same place on back of tent) that allowed some water through overnight. This was a bummer, because one of the leaks got a sleeping mat wet, so it required extra effort to dry that out after our trip. - Not that this is common on tents, but there's no covered canopy/area in front of the ffront door to store shoes/etc. This is a bummer particularly when it's raining. Overall, I like this tent though.
