Great value & surprisingly strong light for its size

I've been telling myself I'd write more reviews on Amazon, since I count on others' reviews to make my own buying decisions, but I never seem to get to it. This UV light is the item that finally brought me to the review table. It shows way more than urine: the highlighter marker I'd washed off my hands at work that could no longer be seen in bright light became super-florescent white under the UV. My husband teased me about poor personal hygiene for about 5 minutes, until I traced it back to a highlighter mishap and could verify the same results on his hand. Then we spent 30 minutes checking everything around the house--doorknob areas, baseboards, the dials on the stove--"eww!" and "gross!" all over the place. Some things were easily identified--creamer spilled near the coffee maker that missed a wipe-up, a soap/toothpaste line running down the sink...others?? I was pleased to find only 3 spots I could identify as cat urine, but it was obvious they were urine stains when we spotlighted them. Definitely shows the characteristic "spray pattern" and the UV lights it up glowing white for easy identification...not haz-mat green glow of coffee creamer. We have 4 cats; 2 are young kittens, who we'll blame the 3 spots on, even though it was probably one of the older angsty cats that did it. No matter the culprits--now I have a game plan for wiping the house from top to bottom, and with the light, it's actually entertaining to snoop around for our household's "trouble spots." Another reviewer mentioned their toilet seeming too clean--we also saw nothing on any of the toilet surfaces (which seemed strange to us, too), but one of the cat spots was behind the toilet and showed up immediately. Works best on non-reflective surfaces, with overhead lights off, and most visible spots for me about 6-8 inches from the surface. Used a "formulated for cat urine" cleaner for the urine 3 spots, and re-lit with the UV after everything dried...no more glow! Would definitely recommend this light to other pet owners.

Somewhat useful, but didn't show all of the stains.

This light seems to work in some instances and not in others. One of my dogs was on medication causing accidents in the house, so I got one of these lights to help find the stains. The weird thing is that I found some small stains in the hallway where I didn't expect, but in the bed room where I knew there was a major mishap, I found nothing, but the aroma was so strong, I had to open the windows and steam vac the room several times. I'm guessing that maybe it has problems showing up on light colored carpet. I had to hold the light fairly close to the floor to be able to see the spots, so I went in the bathroom to test it out and found where someone had missed the target, however, I still had to hold the light pretty close to see it. Also, you'll want to have the lights off in the room to be able to see the stain light better.
