Sleek looking device, easy to activate, and blazing fast!
By P on Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2016
I had huge reservations before making this purchase because of the mixed reviews. But I took the leap and bought it. It's been just few days but I couldn't be happier! There are few things most negative reviews complain which I have addressed below: 1.) MAC Address is blacked out - Believe that's intentional and Netgear provides the exact instructions on how to retrieve the MAC address. 2.) Activating with Comcast is a pain - This couldn't be farther from the truth. I use Comcast Xfinity and activating it was a breeze. Just go to Comcast.com/activate to use the device without calling customer support. It's self service and is pretty easy to use. In fact if I remember correctly it doesn't require MAC address, you just need to plug in your computer to the modem via a LAN cable (which is included in the packaging). After activating it I couldn't believe it was so quick. I called up customer support just to confirm whether they see my router activated on their end and it showed up in their systems (although after almost an hour after activation) 3.) Slow Wifi speed - i haven't noticed any drop in the wifi download or upload speed. Connecting on 5Ghz gives me a full 100mbs download speed (which is what my Xfinity plan is) and 2.4Ghz gives a reduce speed of around 60mbs. I think that's expected. 4.) Warranty and other quality related issues - Even though it's a refurbished product it appears brand new. It's been just few days since I started using it but I haven't observed any issues that might make me want to contact Netgear support. 5.) Firmware - Netgear's official site for this modem lists the firmware versions that various ISPs support. It supports the latest version for Comcast, but for some reason my modem has not yet updated to the latest firmware. This is an area where I am unsure how to proceed further but again, the current firmware hasn't caused any issues yet. So I am not too concerned. 6.) And then finally, compared to my Xfinity rental modem, which is an Arris, the Netgear modem is sleek looking and has an amazingly fast boot up time. The Arris used to take a good 5-10 mins for the wifi to start working whever it was rebooted. But Netgear takes less 2mins for it to ne up and running.

Serious Flaws
By kathleen mckeon on Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2015
I own a small company, I save pennies where there's no harm to our operation. It's just good sense. Since refurbished means the device has been inspected and works as it should, I'm a believer in refurbished devices. Practical and typically save 15-50%. Win! But refurbished does not mean inspected for this device - or they chose to send out a defective device. Neither case looks good for Netgear and this seller. Of the 2 wired ports one is completely defunct. Using speedtest.net to check it, it registers as .7mbps download and won't even register for upload speeds. The working wired port and wireless pull 110mbps down and 11mbps up - appropriate for my twc package. If you need multiple wired connection for additional devices - printers, etc. Don't trust these factory refurbished devices. Skip netgear or skip the refurb device. Update Nov 4, 2015, two weeks after 30-day return period closed - literally. The device officially died. Other uses complain about needing to frequently reset - this device failure is related to that. Wired and wireless ports all officially kicked. They hold signal for up to 60s and then drop signal completely (while measuring the coax for comparison purposes). This is not a matter of buffering to get over the hump, the device has narcolepsy. And now I am unable to return. $103 pissed out the window. You win some; you lose some. AVOID THIS DEVICE.
