A Happy Surprise! I am a cabinet maker and am ...

Worx Worxsaw versus Rockwell Compact Circular Saw I am a cabinet maker and am frequently asked to do maintenance and repairs on many 75 year old to 120 year old houses that cover my neighborhood. These homes tend to have many tiny places (closets and cabinets) I need to squeeze myself and my tools into to make repairs. A traditional 7.5 inch circular saw cuts speedily but is too unwieldy for such small spaces as these and a reciprocating saw is frequently too slow and too big. I received the Worx Worxsaw yesterday after spending several hours comparing it to the Rockwell 5 Amp Compact Circular Saw (at nearly twice the price depending on the vendor) which is made by the same Chinese manufacturer as the Worx. Despite all the rave reviews for both saws, I had hesitations about each of them. My concern was that the 4 Amp Worxsaw wouldn't be powerful enough for what I do and that the poor placement of the lock release button on the Rockwell and the Rockwell's 3 extra inches in length would make the saw uncomfortable to use in the cramped quarters I frequently find myself in. I opted for the Worxsaw. It came yesterday and I put it to use today in a tiny closet I needed to partially demolish. My concerns are gone. I love this thing. It cuts through a 2 by 4 effortlessly. It cut 1/2" plywood right along the straight edge I clamped to the board without creeping so alignment of the blade to the footplate is spot on. Depth adjustments are easy. It fits my hand like a tailored leather glove. The lock release is easy to reach and the hand position is genuinely comfortable. It small size makes it incredibly easy to maneuver even in very tight spaces. It even sounds good (you can hear the healthy whine of the gearing inside). The engineers coaxed the perfect amount of torque out of the motor when paired with the thin kerfed blade. Most importantly, the cut surfaces are clean enough for gluing if you need to do so provided you let the tool do its job without forcing it. I rarely review a tool online. This tool is a rare exception. To be fair, I have only had it for a day and have no idea how long it will last. Nevertheless it feels solid. It is not too heavy or too light for its size. I have noticed that Worx sells a similar tool in the UK with a laser attached. I wish I could have purchased that as it would be a help for the kind of work that I do. My recommendation is that you don't concern yourself with the power output in comparison to the Rockwell. This is a stellar tool.

A little overhyped, but has its uses
By d00d on Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2017
This review is meant to temper some of the unrealistic expectations that 4.5 star average review creates. The saw is great for a specific set of situations, and merely acceptable for others. I bought it because I got fed up with horrible battery life on my Milwaukee 18v li-ion cordless 6.5in circular saw. None of my 3 batteries can survive anything close to a full 8ft rip cut through 3/4in plywood, even using a sharp, fast cutting blade like the "fast framing" Diablo on there. This saw fulfills my basic need of getting through that same cut using the blade that comes with it, albeit slower than 7 1/4in corded competitor even with a fine tooth blade. It can also make cross cuts in 2x4s and even rip them, but again, slower and with a bit more difficulty than I had hoped. Construction seems decent although lots of plastic pieces on it. Can't speak to longevity of motor yet, but time will tell. That said, I think Worx has an above average warranty. Pros: Easy to handle, carry, and pack; has dust port for shop vac; has storage solution in cord for adjustment wrench; acceptable cutting power for size, competes with cheaper 7 1/4in circular saws on price, comes with a rip fence (which surprisingly some cheaper 7in saws do not); narrow width of sled makes it easier to cut with limited space, like on a narrow work piece that has it's edge on one side clamped down Cons: Lacks the power most reviews would have you expect so it cuts quite slowly, shuddered a few times and really slowed ripping some pine 2x4s; small width of the sled means it's easier to inadvertently tilt it a bit and cut at a slight angle (bevel); rip fence has flimsy plastic section that flexes; screw mechanism for tightening rip fence causes it to move as you get it tight, which is annoying and leads to extra effort/attempts to get it both tight and perfectly accurate for your cut Bottom line: This is great for the homeowner or crafter that occasionally needs a circular saw for a project or fix around the house, not making lots of long accurate cuts. Its small size and weight also make it a good addition to a light toolkit for someone that travels for small fixes, like a landlord aka sporadic handyman. Someone making frequent use of it for longer cuts may be disappointed. I fall into both of those camps to some extent so I will likely keep this and end up adding a table saw down the line for serious rip cuts, although I'm still on the fence (pun intended). I think for the price and versatility this saw is a good deal overall. Most people will probably be happier with this than a $50 or cheaper 7 1/4in circular saw, but depending on their needs probably not an $80 one like the Skilsaw SPT67WE-01.
