Just what I needed for Iceland!
By Melissa W on Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2016
I purchased this jacket in red in both XS and XXS because I heard it runs really big. That's definitely true. I'm about 5'3" and about 123 lbs and the XS ran a little too big in the shoulders and upper body for me. I ended up keeping the XXS because it was a snugger fit. On both jackets the sleeves ran too long for my petite frame, but there are velco straps so you can tighten the sleeves at the hems.Anyway, at first, I didn't know if this jacket was too hefty for what I was looking for. I just took a trip to Iceland and needed something waterproof (not water resistant), slightly insulated, and thigh length to protect me in heavy rain and wind. (The temperatures were only expected to be in the high 30s-40s.) I got this jacket and thought the bulk was overkill and it took so much room in our luggage, so I considered sending it back. I actually ended up keeping it because I couldn't find anything else I liked better that fit all my requirements. However, I will tell you that this jacket was an absolute LIFESAVER and PERFECT for my trip to Iceland. I cannot stress that enough. Had I brought a lighter weight jacket, I think I would have been way too cold. This jacket protected me on the days when we had some rain and ridiculous wind gusts. The length is perfect and paired with some waterproof pants, I never got wet in the rain. My body actually never got cold once wearing this jacket; I only had frozen hands a few times from wearing thin gloves. Additionally, this jacket has tons of pockets, so I was easily able to keep my phone in a zippered pocket while out and about. My only critique is that the hood runs a little big and sometimes trying to zip up the jacket was a struggle. The bottom part of the zipper always took a few attempts and struggles to fit the two sides together. However, I think this jacket was generally exactly what I needed and I would recommend this for anyone searching for a waterproof jacket to protect them from the cold and wind.

Do your research first...

I went to the actual store to try this on and fell in love; now of course there is that theory when you try something on in the store, it looks horrible at home...Well I bought it from Amazon, directly from their warehouse, first off, the coat was clearly not in the best condition; which annoys me considering the price paid. Secondly, I would never ever pay full price for this coat; I only bought it because it was on sale for $299, $500 (original price) is INSANELY overpriced for what you're getting. This is a warm bulky coat, it will definitely keep me warm in these cold New England days, I have no doubt about it. My only issue is the fit, first off this coat runs insanely large, so you may need to go down a size or two. I'm 5' ft tall and at 150 lbs, very curvy, large bust and I bought a S and it fits me perfectly, with a sweater on. Now the arms are long, which annoy me because being small, God forbid these coat companies make sizes for petite people... I digress. The pockets are huge and in abundance, this is really a hiking or even an adventure jacket, it works for commuting if you carry lots of things and need the storage on yourself. I think the pockets on the breasts are really annoying, especially if you're busty, it draws more attention to your chest and the zippers point out; super weird. Aside from that, I love the red, it's a rich color, fabric feels strong and durable, I do recommend buying it from another vendor, Amazon has been really crappy with their clothing shipments. The one I got came with tattered, yes TATTERED tags and fortunately the coat itself seems intact so I guess I'm keeping it.You're best off trying it on if you have the option, but it is a GOOD coat, it's clearly build for tall slender people, short curvy girls struggle, though I've tried on North Face and Marmot and the issues are constant; long sleeves, tight chest, huge waist area; alas not every body type is meant to be accommodated for. This will suit it's purpose for hopefully a couple of years and I can rest easy knowing it only cost half of what it's listed as. I love Fjallraven's brand and their company's products, I'm expecting this to last and do plan to update the review; they DO have a lifetime warranty on their coats as listed at their stores and online; I'm not sure if that applies if you bought it through a third party vendor, but worth looking into.
