Best purchase I've made in a long time. Concerned about price...don't be, it's worth every cent!

It's sad to say, but I'm in love with a vacuum. As I've gotten older, I went from jumping around the house because I got Lego's and Supersoakers to jumping around the house when I get a new appliance or awesome gadget like this. I have a dog that sheds like crazy and no matter what I do, his hair gets everywhere. When I was reading reviews for handheld vacuums, someone said "this Dyson sucks up dirt and hair you didn't even realize was there" and I can't even tell you how true that is. It's incredible for any mess that happens. A couple of things that I want to specifically highlight: -I had a tough time at first trying to figure out the differences between the couple of "V6" models they have. Basically I found out, it really only differs in terms of what attachments and accessories come with it. So you can get this Car and Boat one, and it comes with all the accessories that would come in the "accessories package you can buy separately" and a few others that don't come in that. So after looking into it, it absolutely makes sense to get this because it's cheaper and comes with 2 extra accessories. -I was concerned about the 20 minute run time. I haven't come into a situation where it wasn't enough. Don't get this if you plan on trying to use it for the entire house at once. I'd get a regular vacuum that plugs in. But for a solid clean up of hair, dirt, dust, etc. from basically anything from your house to your car or boat, this thing does the job and it does it extremely well. -I had a cheaper Black n Decker that I always thought was a good handheld. Well you get what you pay for. That wasn't picking up even half of what this thing picks up. -It's SO easy to use. The accessories clip or attach very quickly and easily and the little button that lets the bottom fall out so you can drop all you sucked up right in the trash can is amazing. It's a very solid and well thought out "machine". -240 for a handheld vacuum with all accessories included...was it worth it...yes, every cent worth.

Battery died after 6 months of light use / warranty denied because purchased on Amazon
By Ethel Patricia on Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019
We bought this vacuum to clean up pet hair and touch up the cars. We purchased it new in mid-June 2018 and it arrived undamaged and in unopened retail packaging. We used it a few times a week to chase pet hair dust bunnies and touch up the cars. The documentation from Dyson packaged with the unit claims a two year warranty period. It worked great until mid-December. Went to use it as normal and got only a blinking red light on the battery. A little internet searching indicates that the flashing red is a battery fault, but the manual says only to "contact Dyson helpline". No online help. Had trouble getting ahold of Dyson over the holidays, but finally got a callback today. Dyson rep read through a script ostensibly to troubleshoot but it covered all of the warranty exclusions. He was clearly fishing for a reason to deny warranty coverage for a defective battery. For example, the rep asked where I used it, and I said around the house and in the cars. Rep: "where are the cars?" Me: "What do you mean? They're parked outside." Outside use is not covered. Me: "Ok, but the manual says "for domestic indoor and car use only." Rep: "Well, it was bought in 2017, so you're outside of the warranty period." Me: "It was bought in June 2018, I have the receipt, and besides, the warranty period is two years." Back-and-forth like this for a while until they found a reason I couldn't deny: bought on Amazon. Even though the listing says "Dyson V6 Trigger - Cordless - by Dyson" with a link to the Dyson Co. Amazon seller page (https://www.amazon.com/stores/node/2590942011?_encoding=UTF8&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=Dyson&ref_=bl_dp_s_web_2590942011) and is one of the first to come up, the seller was "unauthorized." Warranty denied. A little internet searching shows the battery fault on the Dyson cordless is pretty common, which indicates a manufacturing defect. It is 2019: most of us have hundreds of devices with lithium-ion batteries, and they don't generally give out after only a few months of normal use. I thought it was a quality brand, but I won't buy a Dyson unit again.

It is hard to find anything new to write about a product that already has over 300 reviews. I needed two hand vacs and bought the Dust Buster first. I did not like the fact that the Dust Buster is charged by sitting on a flimsy and wobbly base instead of having the power cord plugged into the vac. I did not want a second Dust Buster. Because I own a couple of regular Dyson vacs I decided to take out a second mortgage and buy this V6. When it arrived I read what is one of the best User Manuals I have ever seen, It is about 8" x 12" with the first portion clearly providing assembly instructions in nice big displays identified with an easily legible font size. The latter part of the manual, where the various uses of the vac are explained, is smaller font size but overall this manual is a winner. The vac was partially assembled upon arrival so gave it a brief trial just to make sure it was operable. I then plugged in the power cable and gave it a full charge. After the charge I gave it a thorough try out using various accessories which included the ones provided with the purchase and some that I bought separately as a kit. The accessories are very easy to attach and remove. Everything I tried works well and it even picked up a few items that the Dust Buster had left behind. All in all this is a very fine hand vac.
Confident THIS hand-held will continue to perform so well

(Update: 3 years later still working. Bought the V10 also for more powerful suction.) Okay, I was skeptical. I've been through many, many hand vac's whose charge didn't last and whose life span was disappointing. This Dyson is living up to its hype. Its charge lasts weeks for my use. I store it beneath the kitchen sink and plug its charger in with our garbage disposal so it is always handy. It comes with a floor brush for smooth surfaces. Strong suction, lasts through a kitchen floor cleanup. It's fun to use by children, so we use it as a reward. How funny. The one with the best manners at dinner gets to clean up crumbs, so it stands up to a lengthy use and many on/off cycles. We've had it a few months and are pleased with its performance. At one point it was cycling on and off every second, so we googled what was wrong. It had a blockage immediately as crumbs were entering the container. We took it apart, which was easy, removed the offending item (a piece of hard plastic), and have used it since. Excellent buy, confident it will last.

I like Dyson products generally and love that this company seeks to solve today's needs using innovative technology that other's haven't even thought of. This handheld vaccuum cleaner does the job on the 'normal' power setting (with a max usage time stated as up to 20mins - I haven't used it continuously this long yet). Using the 'Max' button does create a noticeable increase in suction power for heavier dirt pickup, but limits the usage time to about 6 mins according to the user manual. For the price ($200+), the unit should have come with a docking/charging wall-mount bracket (it only comes with a loose charger and two tools: a long narrow nozzle and a wider nozzle with brush). However, my low-cost solution was to use a plastic tie as a wall hook loop - and it works well! I also hung the charger unit with a plastic tie. there is no simple way to hang the tools either. A piece of wire through the holes in the end of the longer nozzle allow me to hang it up with the vacuum. The unit is well balanced and the dirt bin empties well. A decent enough product that could be better value with some simple design changes.

First of all, the vac didn't work right out of the box, giving out blinking amber LED. Tech support was of no help at all, trying to feed me with different sorts of BS, which I haven't bought being an electronic engineer myself. So I had to and have been able to repair it myself, happy me. The problem was a faulty temperature sensor inside the battery pack. It is initially supposed to shut down battery power when outside temperature drops below 3 degrees C. Instead of that the broken sensor was shutting down the battery at 24C. Well, now the vac works fine. Now a couple of words about the vac itself. The suction is really powerful, especially at MAX mode. The vac is easy to operate, the overall design and attachments are great, especially I like the power brush. Battery life is 17 min. (6 min. @ MAX). Not much but you have to pay for the power, alas. What I don't like. - Noise level (high pitched whistle) is pretty high and uncomfy - measuring at 85dbA (90 at MAX power). - the dust bin is pretty small, you'll want to empty it often. - the body of the vac gets electrified because of circulating debris inside, so after a couple of minutes of operation the vac starts to attract fine sand and dust overall it's surface. - when you empty the dust bin, dust falls down and makes a big dirty cloud. User manual recommends doing it inside a plastic bag. Even doing so, the electrified body of the vac attracts this dust cloud on itself, so you have to clean the vac from outside too. Why not make vac's plastic parts from anti-static plastic, Dyson? All of the above being said, I still think this little beast is one of the best in terms of overall performance. All other handheld vacs available on the market clearly cannot catch up with this one.
Very good hand vacuum, though the price should mean it's perfect.

This vacuum has the exact same pros and cons as any Dyson. If you've ever owned one, you know exactly what to expect: top tier suction, great design, a hefty price tag, wobbly plastic. Here's some things that are most specific to this model. Pros: 1. Great suction, and a large improvement over previous handhelds I've owned. On MAX mode the suction on it is exceptional for a handheld, far beyond anything I've experienced with a handheld vacuum in the past. On regular mode, it's more than enough suction for handling most common handheld vacuum tasks. 2. Battery life is very solid on it, provided you're using it on normal mode. As advertised, you get over 20 minutes of use from it on normal mode, provided you're not continuously holding down the button the whole time. At MAX you get around 5-6 minutes. 3. Charges fairly fast. Takes a few hours and you're good to go. 4. Dustbin is easy to empty. Can be a little messy, but just hold it over the trash bin correctly and it won't be too bad. 5. The design is awesome, even compared to the previous Dyson handhelds. My inner 10 year old makes me feel like I'm blasting dust with some futuristic space gun. 6. The combo brush/flat nozzle works well, and the brush section stays on and doesn't budge when I use. This tends to be a common problem for other handheld vacuums I've had in the past. 7. The filter is very easy to remove and clean. Cons: 1. Still just too darn expensive. I got it at the discounted price of $200, but yeesh. For that price I at least expected more attachments, such as...... 2. There's no rotary brush tool. If you plan on effectively cleaning your stairs or furniture with it, its a must. Unfortunately they make you pay for it separately, and it's another $60-$70 for it, which is absurd. 3. Still has Dyson's usually flimsy attachment connections. There's noticeable wiggle when in use, and even though I don't notice any loss of suction as a result, but it just makes it feel unnecessarily cheap in a particular way compared to the rest of the premium feel of the device. I don't understand why Dyson units continue to have this problem. 4. Want to upgrade it in the future to a DC59? Good luck. The parts aren't sold in the US and can only be imported via their UK site. The cost for the purple neck piece and the floor tool with shipping will cost more than buying the DC59 outright. If you're lucky you might see them on Ebay at a more reasonable price. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, but in order for it to earn five stars the device would either need to come with a rotary tool, or the price would need to be lowered to at least $150.

Purchased this unit to replace a Black & Decker 15.6 volt Dustbuster, which would not hold a charge, and didn't seem to have a lot of suction anyway. The Dyson is MUCH more powerful, and appears perfectly suited for quick pickup of the various small items that appear to just grow out of our floors! I have a large dog, and he brings in a lot of little stuff from outside, and the Dyson makes short work of picking up after him. He does not shed, so I don't know how this unit would be if you have dogs or cats that leave a lot of fur around, but for minor household cleanup duties, this is a very convenient appliance. It's appearance would indicate that it is bulky and heavy, but that is deceiving. It is not hard to handle in any way, and is light enough that even a child should have no problem in using it. The charge time seems adequate, since you aren't using this to clean your entire house anyway. We charged it once, used it several times, and it still appears to have some juice left in it. The price might seem a little high, but we really feel we got what we paid for. All in all, appears to be a high-quality item, and we are very happy with it.
Great Vacuum only with "MAX" setting on, very low life battery & dusty air blowing in your face!

I bought this vacuum 1.5 years ago. I have been using it at least twice to three times a week to clean around out cats' litter box, remove their fur in their cat tree and the usual quick cleaning around the house (fur balls, kitchen scraps, etc). So far it's been very reliable as long as I keep the battery plugged in. When I first started using this vacuum, I would let the battery go empty to make sure it lasts longer. Unfortunately, after a few weeks, I noticed that I wasn't able to use the vacuum because the battery was dead after using it only a few times during the week. I usually only use it 30sec to a minute tops at a time so the battery is really not resilient. I would even say it's a really bad quality battery. The other thing is that I only use this vacuum on the "MAX" setting otherwise it's not powerful enough and just doesn't do the job. I bet it drains the battery more and at the same time, I got a DYSON because I know they are supposed to be the most powerful vacuums out there. So that's a big disappointment too. Also, I will say that something that bothers me a lot, since it's a "portable" vacuum, is that it is expected to be used at higher levels than a good old regular "floor" vacuum. Well everytime I use it on shelves, even lower than my face, I get that nasty dusty engine air blown in my face and it's really unpleasant. The air exhaust is in the back on the sides which is a very bad design. It should be on top so the dirty air goes up as opposed to straight to your face. The last thing I will say is that the plug is disproportionally big and takes the room of 2/3 plugs on a power strip (of course the long part goes horizontally over the power strip instead of going vertically). Another bad design, I mean seriously! Do I need a cable extension for every single appliance I buy? So, this portable vacuum is overall a big disappointment from DYSON. I thought they were better than the average company but not really. It's over priced for all those issues.

This thing vacuums up stuff very nicely, and there's lots of attachments to help it be useful in all sorts of vacuuming stuff situations. I'm already amazed at how clean the filter stays, considering what I vacuum. However, all the things it does well raise my expectations and make it's shortcomings seem even more frustrating. 1. The minor shortcoming: I wouldn't have spent this kind of money on a vacuum cleaner if I wasn't interested in getting things clean. The inside of the clear window has gotten dirty, and it wouldn't have been hard at all to make that thing twist-lock off, so that I could remove it and give it a swipe with a sponge or a damp towel when I'm done vacuuming. Or it could be coated with some technology-indistinguishable-from-magic everything phobic surface from which the dust just falls (which would probably improve cyclonic effect in many real-world circumstances). 2. The major shortcoming: This is a cordless power tool. There's a reason cordless power tools are sold with two batteries and an external charger. That paradigm really works. If Dyson doesn't want to sell their own swappable batteries, I have the following suggestion: make an interface to a Dyson adapter plate, and sell adapter plates for several brands that will allow compatible power tool batteries to connect to the vacuum. It's amazingly frustrating when I'm 92% done and the vacuum just shuts down on low battery. If, under those circumstances, I could put a 5.2 amp hour Metabo battery on it and finish out the project, I'd be much happier. I know that battery would mess with the weight and the balance and the appearance 'n all, but when I'm 92% done and the battery dies, I don't care about those things nearly so much as i care about finishing up with my vacuuming so that I can mark it of my mental list until next time.
