Metal and denim makes a nice industrial look, sounds like an expensive headphone!
By Kien Lip Lee on Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2015
These cans are very good on 2 fronts, its audiophile-like sound and its raw industrial-like charm. I would first write about my appreciation for the sound it makes before describing what I think about its build and looks. + Sound Prior to buying, I listened to it at a shop, and read reviews on it. I would urge you to try one out first before purchasing because it may not fit your head or it might hurt you too much with its clamping force. One thing that this headphone does well is seal from outside noise, and it does it so well that a lazy user would think it is too bassy or distorted! Keep adjusting its position until the sound becomes neutral! Only when the headphone is centred over your ears it will be distortion-free, the bass becomes well tamed and does not alter vocals and treble returns to the music. At this point you will be amazed that it sounds like the Beats 2.0 or the Fidelio M1, you will be surprised how good they are. These headphones actually sound better than either of the named because it has one more trick, in that these headphones are fast and present the attack of an instrument very well. The attack is so good that you can hear the texture of the guitars as they are strummed and the drums have texture instead of a simple thump, plus because they are not missing any frequency bands so all instruments sound in balance along with the vocals all at the same level of loudness. I know these because they sound the same as my more expensive headphones, the Grado SR60 and the Shure SRH440 which have been known to sound neutral and versatile for any music. Listening to these headphones present similar enjoyment as the expensive headphones. But one thing important to note here about these headphones is that they must be used at low listening volumes. When listening volumes are raised, the bass would start to bloat, likely because the headphone housing is resonant at bass frequencies. There was 1 song that I found that it failed to reproduce properly, but I would not make it lose a star in the rating because I can listen to other songs instead. Bass does intrude into the mid-range a little, such that if the song has a saxophone or bass as the accompaniment, it will be a little too loud for the background sounds, but if it becomes too loud then remember to adjust and center the headphone like I mentioned just now. With it I have been listening to a variety of songs, Adele presents beautiful vocals with wonderfully arranged musical accompaniments; "Like a Cat" from AoA is very energetic and the girl's shouts cut in and out as would a raving party would. I still have not finished exploring, but I think it should turn out well for most music genres. I strongly recommend it. But be careful about the larger variant named the same name but with an XL appended. I tried listening to that and I can confirm that the XL variant has bass problems and vocals are unnatural. The small on-ear version is the gem here. + Looks and Build It has a thick metal band, some thick denim as a pad, some wood accents and an unknown material for the can body because it is wrapped in the same denim. The foam is OK in firmness, not memory-foam type, and is covered in soft pleather. The metal is not shiny, and the denim gives a feel of ruggedness, so I would say it is themed "industrial", and that is lovely. It definitely is a break from shiny plastics or matte black designs, one that deserves my praise. The band gives very little flexibility, so it may work against you. My medium Asian head works well with it, but the clamp force can mean you cannot enjoy it for long periods. But that should be fine, just have music for 1 hour then let the ears rest for a bit before coming back for more. In terms of serviceability, the band will likely never break. The braided cable looks thin and wiry so take care with it because it is not detachable. The pad seems to be replaceable so that could be good news, if you can find parts that fit. The volume controls only work with iPhone I think, but the middle button works well with Android. One point I would to add, although it seals outside noise well, an in-ear would do it better which is the norm. Take a subway and it will not sound well, but if the train is above ground then you have a chance of using it for commute. I simply cannot find enough justification to strike off a star. Did I forget to tell you how good value they are? At deal prices, you can buy 2 or 3 of these for a Beats.. I think I will buy more next Black Friday. :-)

Good but not reliable

Three stars is what you get when you cross 4 stars for sound, 5 stars for value but 1 star for reliability. I really enjoy using these headphones daily as I participate in multiple calls all day and these headhphones allow me to replace a land line with my mobile. The headset and microphone allow me to conduct hour long conversations without skipping a beat. I can also use them in car as the allow in enough ambient noise that I can still safely hear what's going on around me. The bad - the foam inside the inner cups folded up - which wasn't a big deal. But then the connector to my phone started acting up. It would drop the sound down to the minimum, sonically pop in and out of connection and then make crackling sounds. It wasn't terrible but it made it impossible to continue to use them professionally. And of course you wouldn't use anything with those sound characteristics for pleasure. I contacted customer service and they were super nice but the process is thorough - so don't call if you are in a hurry. I just received my replacement headset and they are already not working properly with additional crackling and popping. Sadly, I had to contact tech support already to replace the replacements. These are very comfortable for all day use and I have a big head. The price is fantastic for the value I don't know how much faith I have in this model.
