Pentair pool light

The Pentair light works great. Unfortunately I feel they are way over priced and only last a few years.

4 out of 7 of the Pentair Globrite lights failed within 5 years
By Engineer from Raleigh, NC on Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2020
Like most people, I do not usually review the products that I purchase on Amazon. In this case, the product lifetime is so short for such an expensive product, it warrants a review to warn others. The good: When working, the lights look great. They also integrate well with the Pentair IntelliTouch controller and colors can easily be changed from the Pentair cellphone app. The lights use LEDs and LEDs do not use a lot of power and hence should not burn out for many years. The bad: (1) They do not last long. I have had 1 light "stop working" (ie become waterlogged thereby shorting it out) after less that 2 years. I also have had 3 more lights go out after 4 years (see pictures). After contacting Pentair technical support and inquiring whether this was normal, they said that these lights should last "several years". Note that the Pentair warranty is only for 60 days. If installed by a pool professional, the warranty is for 1 year. (2) They are expensive. Figure $350 for the light with the 100 foot cord. Also figure another $150 to have a pool professional install it. That results $500 per light--and only a 1 year warranty. (3) Pentair support/management is unresponsive to the problem. From reading the reviews on Amazon, it is clear that they have seen this problem. Upon calling them, they state that the water chemicals break down the lights after several years. They said they were sorry that I had trouble with the lights, but not sorry enough to replace any of them. Additional comments: I was hoping that my Pentair Globrite lights were from a defective batch as they were all produced on 12/02/2014 from "Site W". Apparently not. Also, Pentair technical support stated that there had not been a design change since 2013 so I had the latest level. It is surprising to see a usually reputable company like Pentair offer a product like this that self destructs after "several" years and not stand behind it. If I had known that their Globrite lights would have this amount of expense, I surely would not have had ANY installed in my pool.
