Top positive review
Great performance and longevity for the price.
By Paul D. Masten on Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2015
We've been using this as a media center drive/work file host out of my home office for about 2 years, so I can definitely attest to its performance and longevity; it's been quite satisfactory for both. Pros: All features have been tested and used extensively. Everything works very well, the two firmware updates that have dropped since we bought it installed without a fuss, it's easily fast enough to act as a file host for a small workgroup (or an expansion drive for a media center). I wasn't anticipating getting as much mileage as I did out of Buffalo's dns either, I've started getting really lazy about copying work files off of it before I leave because I can us Buffalo's app to download them off the LinkStation Cons: Only one really. It's a fast drive, and a light housing. The vibration damping was not well thought out with this unit, and unless you set it on something relatively squishy, you'll hear a humming vibration coming from it as long as its on. Since our house is networked, and I have a jack and a switch in a room we don't use, the vibration isn't the deal-killer it would have been in a one-bedroom apartment.

A product has many bugs and Buffalo support almost doesn't exist
By Evgeny Rudminsky on Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2014
I bought this unit because for last 3 years I had good experience with Buffalo products. I have also LS-CHL link station and was happy with it and decided to buy new one LS410 with 3TB storage. One of my main concerns was to use built-in bittorent client download. I got my unit and started download torrents and found out that after couple of minutes download speed came to 4.5MB and dialog was popped up "Connectivity problem - unable to communicate with your bittorrent client. So nothing can be done in order to start bittorent client again but restart unit. So bittorrent client crashed. In some cases you cannot even do restart and you need to disconnect it from power supply. So I thought it's bug with bittorent and contacted buffalo support. They suggested to reinstall last firmware but it didn't help. So I contacted them again and they told me that bittorrent client is thirdparty software and they don't provide any support for it.I insisted for support and they escalated it to level 2. But level 2 just sent me link to bittorrent site and that's all, they could provide me any support anymore. I decided to contact Buffalo Japan since I know that they value their customers but unfortunately they just replied that provide support only in Japanese. I noticed also another problems that sometimes while watching movie the unit just restarted and sleep and reboot functions not always work. So I'm very disappointed about the product and more about Buffalo service cause I was willing to provide them all information so they can open bugs and fix them in next release. But they don't care.
