Great flat iron and package

Not only is this an excellent, well priced flat iron, but it comes with a beautiful red satin pouch that I can put it in even while the iron is still hot. It also comes with a heat glove if you're worried about burning yourself. This is my first flat iron and I was worried, but it hasn't been a problem for me. The controls are easy to use, even though they are between the two blades and a little hard to see. That does prevent you from accidentally hitting one of the buttons while using it, though, and that's probably why they designed it that way. There is a digital readout showing the temperature as it is getting hot, which is VERY fast. Can see that temperature rise quickly. When it reaches goal, the display goes blank. When you first press the on button, you can use the + and - buttons to increase or decrease goal temperature. I've found 270 works well for my hair, nice to not have to use the very high temperature this flat iron can go to. There's also a button to set the temperature to maximum if that's what you need. First I put a little oil on my hair to protect it, as recommended by my stylist. That would be really important for the higher temperatures. I found that if I comb my hair well, then I can use the fingers of my left hand to hold out the right size strand of hair, and then use the flatiron from the scalp out. I let go before the flatiron gets to my fingers. I love the look. Highly recommend HSI professional ceramic tourmaline flat iron. I can't imagine those more expensive models would work any better.

A couple of design flaws but ultimately a great styling product

So, I purchased this flat iron back in January because my old one kicked the bucket. I did a lot of research and price comparison - I didn't want to break the bank but I also didn't want to risk spending too little on a shoddy product. The HSI seemed to fall into the right category of what I was looking for and I've not been disappointed. It worked and is still working wonderfully - it heats up quick and leaves my normally thick frizzy hair nice and smooth. I really liked that it came with the styling glove and a small vial of argan oil. My only complaints are that all the buttons are on the inside of the iron making it slightly difficult to gauge what you're doing as they are small and close together and the other is you have to take extra care when turning it off because there's no latch to open the iron wider so the risk of singing a fingertip here or there could be a factor if you're not paying attention. Personally, not a big deal, but I could see as how these design flaws could prove problematic for others. Technically, though - the iron is great. The heat emitted while styling is consistent, the outside casing has never gotten too hot to handle, and that it comes with a convenient travel bag is a bonus. It was worth the purchase to me!
