Travelon Anti-Theft CrossBody Bucket Bag

My original plan for my European trip was to take a backpack/carryon and a roomy no-name travel purse that I have owned for a couple of years and reviewed separately on Amazon. However, friends who had been to the same city I will be visiting told me how they had encountered a pickpocket there, and they recommended a Travelon purse instead. I already owned 2 of them and like the security features, but neither one had a water bottle pocket and that was important for this trip, so I searched for the largest Travelon purse that I could find. The dimensions of the Bucket Bag sounded good and it has 2 end pockets, but it arrived today and it is not as large as it sounds. For example, the bottom of the purse is 4" wide in the middle, but tapers to 2" wide at each end. The sides are sewn together at each end, I guess to make it close securely, but it cuts down on the usable space. The pockets on each end are interesting. When closed, they are flat against the end of the purse; you have to unzip them to reveal a stretchable mesh underneath that holds your water bottle in. Each will hold a 16.9 oz. water bottle securely, but the bottom of the pocket extends into the interior of the purse, reducing the usable space there. Inside the purse there is only one zippered pocket, plus a few open credit-card sized slots with RFID protection. Outside on the front of the purse there is one flat, open pocket plus the half-moon shaped zipper pocket. Inside that half moon pocket, there are two small pockets that I might be able to use for pens and either my pocket camera or my small phone. However, that pocket opens so wide that I would worry about those items and anything else I have in the pocket falling out. The flat zippered pocket on the back of the purse, the side I would wear toward my body, is more secure. I looked at it and thought "that is where I can store my Kindle!" It is plenty large for my 7" Kindle, but my 10" Kindle Fire is in a protective case and does not quite fit. The purse also smelled terrible when I opened the bag, but the smell is already going away (or I am getting used to it). Overall, I am disappointed that this purse will not hold everything I want to be able to access during a 12-hour plane ride. So now I've got to decide whether the security features are important enough to make me want to take it anyway, or whether I should send it back. I am disappointed.
