What Thule & Yakima racks CAN'T do. Rear hitch mount bike rack with enough clearance for large spare tires!
By Happy Camper on Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2018
I read a lot of the reviews for this rack and I'm very pleased with its function and quality. We needed a 2" hitch mount bike rack for our 4 different vehicles. With 4 bikes, tray style racks would add to much rear length, weight and expense. So hanging style was the only option which had more ground clearance too. The RV with larger rear spare tire mount was the hardest to find a fit for. Other Thule & Yakima expensive $500+ models didn't have enough clearance, even the swing out units I tried. Searching online trusting Amazon & it's customer reviews, we took a chance and its perfect for our family of 4 bikes. My mountain bike & my wife's both don't have straight top frame tubes but still fit fine not needing any "special $100 adapter tube" like other brands require. Even my kid's single wheel tow bike I got to mount on! Considering the simplicity of the rack and tie down rubber straps, you do have to add your own additional bungee cords, foam noodles or towels etc. to further secure all the bikes, forks, pedals, tires from swinging too much or banging into each other. But this is no different than any other hanging style bike rack I've researched and even tested on floor models. The quality is built solid and very simple design makes it easy to use, mount and remove. Great value for the price and ability to use with larger rear mounted spare tires. Obviously per its design it doesn't swing out for side opening rear trunks. Check Allen Sports models to make sure you order the right unit and check measurements. Only concern with anti-wobble bolt on hitch connection, there's no hitch pin to use a locking pin? So add a cable from the rack to the hitch chain eye on either side? Will update soon after a few long road trips with the RV.

Does not clear rear gate on Jeep Wrangler
By Lauren Rosenthal on Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2024
I previously purchased an Allen hitch mounted bike carrier and it was perfect. I needed a new bike carrier for a new Wrangler. Unfortunately they redesigned the product and now there the foldaway release button that is in the way and the rear gate cannot open with the mount attached.
