Great knife. Not so great sheath.

The knife is great. Sharp right out of the box, and feels like its on the same level of quality as other SOG knives I have owned. I bought it due to its recommendations in a field guide. The only complaint was the sheath which is not up to the normal SOG quality. Very poor fit for the blade and the snap for the retention strap is plastic and broke the first time I opened it. Luckily their customer service is excellent and a new one was shipped at on charge less than 24 hours after I sent and email inquiry about a new sheath. I was willing to buy one because I felt like I had been stupid when I tried to open the snap. No questions asked just a notification that a new one was on the way. So five stars for the awesome knife and customer service, and I can deal with less than awesome sheath.

I am surprised how well this knife is reviewed. I have to agree that the strength of this knife is great. The tang is full and huge. The problem is that the handle is smaller than the tang, so when you grip the knife a bit of the tang causes a "hot spot" in your hand that is uncomfortable. The index finger goes right to a spot that is filed out for a sturdy grip but on hard cuts this rubs your finger wrong. I feel like this is really a knife blank and the handle was an afterthought. I would be happy with this knife if the handle covered a little bit more of the tang , just another oz of molded plastic but as it is the knife is uncomfortable for even light use. The knife is strong though I'll carve my own handle and re-pin that on.
