Very High Power Loss

I bought 10 of the 0.5m LC-LC, and installed 4 of them. 3 had significant optical power losses, so much so that it tripped an alarm on our router, and iPerf speeds dropped from 1.5Gbps to 200Mbps. Instead of a normal power level of -3dB to -4dB, the one that triggered the alarm was -19.5dB. The others I tried were -4 to -12dB, the rest I tossed out. Another more traditional brand all gave -3 to -4dB. The transceivers were new, but after the problem I tried cleaning both the transceiver and the patch cable - but it did not help. They come with certification ratings but in my case they weren't accurate.
