I'm a fan of rice cookers. I bought a super-cheap rice cooker 2 Thanksgivings ago because one guest really, really wanted rice with T-giving dinner, and I was out of stovetop space. I couldn't believe I waited so long! This thing made perfect rice, was fast, and it also perfectly cooked oatmeal. It was so, so simple to use and to clean. Wash the pot insert, wash the lid, done. I finally had to replace it because the little rubber gasket on the steam vent of the lid came off and got lost, and I couldn't find a way to replace it. So, I upgraded to this one. I've used it a total of 5 times, and I don't like it very much. First of all, way too many buttons. And it took FoReVeR to cook a simple pot of rice! (more than 30 minutes!!). And even longer to cook oatmeal. (my small, cheap one made perfect oatmeal in about 15 minutes total.) Then, while it cleans up pretty easily, you have to disassemble a few pieces and wash them separately. And still, there was residue on the rim of the actual cooking unit. The small cheap one was much more straightforward to use AND to clean. I mean, it does its job. It (eventually) cooks rice perfectly. I'll use it for awhile but I'll soon be buying another cheap little one-button number. This thing is way too fussy, plus takes up too much room in the cabinet.
