iHome id7s - gifted it

Got this for a friend's birthday. They absolutely loved it. Great quality and sound. Very portable, and works well indoors and out. Elegant design and great for a gift for anyone (male or female, old or young). Easy to operate, and was packaged well. Will work with iPods, iPhones, and iPads. So definitely next generation.

Lacks subtlety and range
By Alex S on Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2012
If all you need is something small and portable that will give your internal speakers a boost, this works. It even makes a nice portable stereo speaker system if you want to make a presentation, since it can be run on 4 AA batteries. However, the speaker quality is relatively low for music. The speaker range worked OK between 50 and 75 % of volume. Below 50%, it was closer to what I would expect 30% to be. Above 75 or 80% and the sound quickly lost quality. Even in that range, there wasn't the subtlety in the music you might expect from speakers in this price range. The music is a bit flat and doesn't have a full range of sound. In case you are wondering, the portability, using the four AA batteries extends only to the speakers. You must be hooked up to AC current to actually charge your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. (they all fit nicely). I'm using the word iPad below, but it works the same on all of them. Other things you might need to know: Your iPad only sits in the vertical direction, something important to know if you want to watch movies. The volume buttons are slow responding and touchy. I found it easier to adjust the sound on my iPad. It has a very strange on/off feature. If your music is playing when you connect it, it will turn itself on. When you turn off the speakers, it also turns off your iPad. However, when you turn the speakers on, it not only turns on your iPad, it goes to iTunes and turns it on as well, even if you were not using iTunes when you turned it off. My husband has an iHome radio dock for his iPod touch which actually gives much nicer sound quality. I personally have been using a different brand just a little above this price range and it also has better quality of sound. I will be keeping this by my desk, mostly to use as a dock and for a bit of extra sound on my alarm clock. Not bad, but not good either.
