The perfect way to solve a malfunctioning or non-existant dvd drive on your iMac
By Eyeman on Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2013
Aluminum External USB DVD+RW,-RW Super Drive for Apple--MacBook Air, Pro, iMac, Mini I purchased this item from Seatech through Amazon. I was buying it to replace the dvd drive on my iMac, which stopped functioning. The drive on the iMac was still covered for repair, but I found through research, that many people had problems with the built-in drive's vertical set-up, so I chose to replace it. It arrived much more quickly than anticipated. I had some problems at the start (my own fault, as I wasn't pressing my dvd down on the spindle hard enough. At first I was kind of annoyed, blaming the product, but the gentleman I made contact with at Seatech was very nice and patient, finally offering to send me a second dvd drive to try. This again arrived in two days. It took some time for me to figure out what I was doing wrong and again the gentleman at Seatech was very patient. I am totally pleased with the drive now. I have used it to install programs and I have used it, in conjunction with my Mac's idvd program, to set-up and burn a dvd. I am, at this time , thoroughly pleased with this drive. It is simple to use, inexpensive, remarkably thin, and very easy to set-up. Moreover the person I've dealt with at Seatech was friendly and accomodating in the extreme. I highly recommend this drive for use in conjunction with the newer iMacs that don't have a built-in dvd drive and with older iMacs, as an inexpensive way to replace a malfunctioning dvd drive.

Misleading product description
By Buster Buster on Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2014
The Q&A included in the product description says essentially that this CD/DVD drive is just like the Apple CD/DVD player/burner that used to be built into the Mac Pro. Not true. Before buying this drive be aware of two things: The media tray must be activated by pushing a button on the front of the unit. You cannot access the tray by pushing the eject key on your keyboard. Also, once the tray is open, you cannot simply drop the media into the tray and push the eject button on your keyboard to pull the media into the the player/burner. Instead, you must snap the media into place onto a flimsy mechanism, so flimsy you can't help but wonder if it's going to break. And when you want to take the media out, again you have to press a button on the front of the player/burner to eject and again snap the media out of the tray, again wondering if the mechanism is going to break. All of this is contrary to the claim that this burner/player is JUST LIKE the Apple player it's supposed to mimic. I specifically returned a Samsung player in exchange for this player. The return was because the Samsung player operated just as I found out the new device works. Deciding to make the change was based on the description for this player, a description that is absolutely misleading, at best. Needless to say I will be returning the isecond drive too. And because of the two bad experiences I've had on Amazon regarding CD player/burners I am going to go to the local Apple store and buy Apple's external drive. The cost is no higher than the Amazon price and I can see it and query the salesperson before buying. I don't blame Amazon for this confusion and misleading product description. But I do think the sellers should be required to provide absolutely accurate descriptions of their products or be banned from selling on Amazon altogether. If you want a drive that operates identically to an Apple drive, get an Apple drive. There is one available on Amazon that's highly rated. Enough said? Enough said.
