Excellent Camping knife or backup bushcraft knife.

I just returned today from a weekend camping trip for my friend's bachelor party. I would call us recreational campers/hikers. He usually camps once a year with his fiance as well. I wanted to get him a unique and affordable little gift for his bachelor camping trip, but something that wouldn't be put on the shelf and forgotten about either. Something that would warrant use in particular circumstances. So after some research, I concluded on the Light My Fire/Mora knife. It wasn't too expensive where one would feel guilty using it in the field or if it got lost, it can easily be replaced without feeling guilty about the money spent. I own a Mora MG Clipper carbon steel so I am a fan and know what they're capable of. Mora has a great reputation for ridiculously sharp and quality, affordable knives. Additionally, it isn't as large as the clipper knives so it can easily be stored in his trunk of his vehicle as he travels for work and could come in handy in an emergency or for simple tasks that might necessitate the need for a knife. He put it to use for the first time yesterday and it was really impressive. Like all Mora's it came hair shaving sharp out of the box. I opted for the lime green color so it would be visible in the woods if it was dropped. Someone was about to light the campfire with a Bic Lighter, but I stopped him and suggested that the bachelor try out his new knife. The Light My Fire fire steel worked like a charm. After three precise strikes on our makeshift tinder (dryer lint stuffed in a cardboard toilet paper roll that I dabbed with some Carmex lip balm), the tinder ignited and provided the starting base for our fire that we kept roaring through the night for about 15 friends from HS and College. We had a great time around the camp fire cooking and drinking, talking about old times and the future and busting each others' chops as good friends do. And it all started with the Light My Fire/Mora Knife. He and I were both very satisfied with the gift. This knife definitely shouldn't be abused and used for heavy duty bushcraft, but it is perfect for light duty tasks pertaining to anglers, campers, hikers, and the like for the practicality and quality.

Good Bad Knife?
By thx1138 on Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2013
Lets start with me... I love knives (even Mora's) and have quite a collection! I also work with steel and i am very familiar with manufacturing techniques. I ordered this Knife as a present for a buddy of mine, he an I really liked the features of this knife, when it came in I gave it a once over. At first I was impressed with the grip and quality put into the knife, until i started to notice how cheap the finish on it was. The edges of where the injected plastic met the blade were unfinished(like cheap plastic Army men) and the blade had an uneven bevel(grind on one side was higher than the other side). Not only that but IT WAS NOT EVEN SHARP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked...(Whhhhhhaaattt!!!!!! ) Mora has higher standards when making knives, I know they have Lemons but this...really? What butt-hole let this one by? >:( I went to work with sand paper and wet stones, cleaned up the handle and sharpened the blade(So sharp it could cut atoms in half). Once done it was 1000 times better than before! I told my friend what happened and how i did a little surgery to the blade , he just smiled and said "what a perfectionist",...he had a Happy birthday and really enjoyed the knife! Now on to the review: Pro- Durable, smooth, cool colors, great fire-steel, decent sheath, good steel(Sandvik 12C27 easy to sharpen), and sharper than before(I cut my eyes just reading that). Con: bad manufacturing techniques, should be sharp out of box... Mora, way to pricey for a peace of plastic and steel! I hope no one else has this happen to them if so send it back to the company with a nasty letter and tell them I sent you!!!
