Great mouse, perfect for MMOs
By Sixaola on Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2013
I bought this mouse to replace a Razer Naga Molten Edition. I am avid MMO player and I have grown used to the multiple buttons of this mouse, which provides amazing flexibility when playing other action games. Having so many buttons at your fingertip is great. The TOR mouse is exactly like the Naga mouse. The Molten Edition is wired and this one is wired and wireless. I have found it to be extremely responsive and a great fit for my hand. The mouse has many settings for sensitivity and for the lightning effects. As well, the battery is extremely long lived, I can play for 10 hours straight and it never ran out of battery. There are 2 small issues I have with this model compared to other mice I have seen.1. the buttons on the wheel are usually "on top of" the wheel, you know, closer to the edge of the mouse. This mouse has the buttons "under the wheel", closer to the center of the mouse. Not sure if this makes sense, but it is the only way i can explain it. All the models I have used of mice in the past use the first configuration, so getting used to the change in this mouse required a bit of work. Nothing major, but I know many people really pay attention to this.2. Light on the SW faction logo. While you can select the color of the light in the wheel and the charging base of the mouse, this logo is stuck to yellow color. The mouse actually glows white in this section, and the logo part attach to it is the one that provides the color. Don't expect this logo to change colors.I didn't reduce any stars to this product for these 2 issues since one is cosmetic and the other didn't represent a major issue for me. The mouse is fantastic and works marvelously. I have seen many people complain that the drivers didn't work properly, but that was before the Synapse 2,0 version which is very stable and very reliable.Installation is pretty easy. Plug your mouse, download the driver installer and that's it.This mouse model has been discontinued, and many people are afraid of not finding replacement parts. I don't see many people attempting to replace things like laser sensor and such, so for me it all boils down to the battery replacement. While this battery can provide good 3 or 4 years of work, you might want to buy a replacement Naga battery, which is the same model. I don't think Razer will change the batteries they are using in the near future. If you are buying this mouse for the SWTOR crystal, that promo is not working anymore, so you won't receive anything there. Sorry for that.I am sure many people will think about getting a Naga instead of this mouse, and in my book, but are pretty much the same mouse. They can both do the same thing and in the end they will provide a very close experience to gaming. I bought this at a very reduced price, which is an advantage over the Naga which remains close to full price. And last, having the ability of going wireless and wired with a 17 button mouse is a great addition to this one. I love being able to just plug a cable and be ready to continue playing with no downtime

A comparison: Naga Epic or SW Mouse???
By Zen on Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2012
Having both the Naga Epic and the SW Mouse, I have to say the Naga epic is irrefutably better. The ergonomics, and the ability to adjust said ergonomics makes the Naga epic superior. As mentioned in some previous reviews, the sharp edges of the SW mouse feel rather uncomfortable, and the mouse is surprisingly small. As with the naga, buttons 10 through 12 are awkwardly positioned. With all this in mind, the SW mouse is without a doubt worth the purchase if upgrading from a regular mouse. However already having the Naga epic, I feel this is a downgrade in comfort. Another flaw with the SW mouse is the scroll wheel. As it is slightly lower in the mouse and it feels awkward if using the middle finger to scroll. From an aesthetics point of view, again the Naga epic takes the cake. The interchangeable colored lights of both of these mice is a wonderful feature. However with many of the colors, the silver [SW Mouse] just does not complement them. However the black [Naga Epic] suits quite well with all of the colors. Seeing as most of my hardware is also black, it is no surprise the preference to the naga remains here. However there is one feature I do like about the SW mouse aesthetically, and that is the changeable faction plates. It's nice to add that extra sense of belonging if playing tor, however the light is a white/yellow which doesn't go well with color changing LEDs.Both mice are cordless/corded and come with charges/batteries. That being said, response time is always next to 0 when playing corded, and I highly recommend such with both mice. For me there is no comparison between the two mice, as mentioned earlier, the Naga Epic wins this battle, however the starwars mouse makes a great collectors item and a great upgrade from your average mouse or earlier gaming mice. I would rate this 3.5/5

Great mouse, better than the (non-epic) Naga.

Quick summary - the mouse is better than the regular naga by far, but only worth the price difference over the Naga Epic if you want the unique in-game color crystal or if you prefer the keypad buttons to have a different shape to them. With the Naga Epic, you also get the different shape side pieces that don't come with this which was inconsequential to me. Read on for more details! After reading some of the negative reviews on here, I was a bit skeptic of ordering the mouse. That being said, I read reviews on other sites, compared specs size-wise with my current mouse (Logitech G9x) and the Naga Epic (nearly identical size to the epic, but 8 grams heavier), and I decided to go with this mouse. The black/green color crystal was also a motivating factor.I was pleasantly surprised by the mouse once it arrived. The biggest positive in my opinion over the Naga Epic is the shape of the keys of the keypad on the side of the mouse. Each key is a distinct hexagonal shape, and they don't blend into each other (like the normal non-epic Naga does for me) making it significantly easier to find each button. The buttons are also much easier for me to get to all of them than with the original (non epic) Naga.I'm not quite sure what people mean by "the sharp design hurts", because my hand just doesn't come into contact with any of the corners, and the edges directly under your palm have a slight bevel to them that makes it smooth to the touch. I do have relatively large hands, however, and I have always been a natural "claw" grip, not a "palm" grip so that could factor into my comfort using the mouse.I love how heavy it is. You can really throw this sucker around. It weighs more than my G9x.I had zero issues installing the Synapse software, but then I did read the manual before I tried to install and made sure all the switches were set properly and I started the software install before plugging the mouse into the computer. Also, make sure to use the cable to hook the mouse to the computer the first time, and *always* when downloading firmware or you will brick it.I'm never going to use this mouse as a wireless mouse. Never. Well, maybe if I'm using a laptop. The cord is plenty long enough, and for people who say this mouse "sucks because it's wireless" well, when you plug the cord in - it's a full-fledged wired mouse. It doesn't use the wireless when it's plugged in, so no - none of the interference, lag, or polling problems that you might have seen with other wireless mouse are present in this mouse, especially when you leave the plug in.Yes, the color change only affects the wheel. No problem, the yellow is pretty prevalent in the game. Although I'm devising ways to make the sith logo glow red, probably going to replace or bleach/dye the plastic backing one of these days. Speaking of mods, I'll probably also end up painting the gray flat black - just more fitting for an evil sith lord, lol.All in all I'm very glad that I spent the extra $30 on this mouse over the current price of the Naga Epic on amazon. Would I do it if I wasn't getting a sweet black/green lightsaber crystal? No, probably not. So...yeah, I spent 30 bucks for a shiny in-game lightsaber. I'll admit it. If you don't care about that - get the Epic.Oh, and they're supposed to be bringing out the black/green crystal with level 50 stats when patch 1.2 drops.
Fun!

These are my first Razer products and I have to say they are nice. I love the SWTOR theme and it is very cool to have it running and play the game. The most is solid (yes plastic, but still solid) and the tracking is VERY accurate. It is easily up there with the best Logitech mouse I have used. The buttons are all clean and useful as well. I didn't have the awkwardness in accessing some of the thumb buttons that others reported, but the Left and Right buttons can sometimes be difficult to press if my hand gets lazy and slips backwards on the mouse. I have found this to be the case with almost all mice so I don't count it against Razors product.PROs:- It has the SWTOR light up theming. Very cool in low light and changing the colors is quite cool.- The wireless tracks just as well as the wired. No issues flipping between the two, but it is nice to know if you run the batteries down you can direct connect the mouse for a seamless gaming experience.- The Synapse software is SWTOR themed as well and allows you to customize all aspects of the device and how it behaves. You can have multiple profiles and settings that can be recalled with a single click.- It looks cool lit upCONs:- The software is a bit temperamental. At the time of this writing I'm using 2.0 which means a patch is probably imminent.- The green crystal that unlocks is only a low level item that has never been updated. It looks cool but you outgrow it quickly.Over all I find it a really cool product and don't regret buying it. I also find it comfortable to use. I did score it on a sale which lowered the price. The retail price is a tad high but you are undoubtably paying for the Star Wars license. It's a themed product and I would expect to pay more for a themed product.EDIT (7/19/12): They have updated the software. Presently I have no issues with it at all. It is faster to update the peripherals that are connected. Razer has finally sorted out the issues with the software component. The apps have not changed as of yet. I'm hoping for growth there.
Subpar performance at a premium price.

I own several Razer products, and up until now always thought they went out of their way to ensure the highest quality in their products. I was disabused of that misconception when I bought this mouse. The hardware itself is pretty solid. It fits comfortably in my rather large hands and doesn't tire you out over a long gaming session like some other mice. The Synapse software that they force you to use, sadly, is pure trash. The driver on my 4 year old Mamba is far more reliable and superior to Synapse, and that's why this mouse fails. On the hardware side, I love the interchangeable faction plates, the magnetic battery cover, and the plethora of thumb buttons. I do miss the visual battery charge indicator my old Mamba has, however. The blinking light on the base/scroll wheel just doesn't compare. The pairing function is far faster than the Mamba, which is also a plus.I'm not a fan of the two buttons immediately behind the scroll wheel however. They're hard to reach and just counterintuitive. They could have used the same placement as they did on the Mamba, placing them to the front left side of the left mouse button, and made them far easier to access. I also dislike the way the cable inserts into the mouse/base. The cable almost always misaligns itself, requiring more time than it should to properly line up and connect without worrying about damaging the connections. Now we get to the software, which is apparently not where their design strengths lie.The Synapse software appears to have been designed mainly so Razer could bandwagon on the 'cloud computing' trend, and was given very little thought beyond this. Despite loading at startup, the Synapse software never actually loads the profile settings for the mouse. I am forced, every time I start the machine, to manually close the Synapse software and restart it to get the settings to load. One of the biggest annoyances to this is that the mouse cursor seems to default to the slowest speed setting available and requires a ridiculous amount of work to get from one side of my 24" monitor to the other. Once I restart Synapse, everything seems to load properly and the mouse behaves as you would expect. Why they abandoned the on-board memory of their previous wireless mice is anyone's guess. This was one of the best features in their mice, and at this price should have been something they included with this one. Now you're stuck waiting for buggy software to decide it wants to work and load your profile, or forcing it to do so manually, which defeats the purpose of having a default profile to begin with. The mouse also has a ridiculously annoying habit of losing it's wireless communication with the base. Sometimes it's just the scroll wheel, but most of the time it just completely stops working. The only way around this is to either flip the power switch off and back on again, or plug the cable in, which negates the point of having a wireless mouse in the first place.Once you get the buggy Synapse software to load properly, the mouse usually performs like a champ. However, the extreme annoyance of having to manually restart the software every time you start the machine makes this mouse far less desirable than it should be. The frequent disconnects are just salt in the wound. If you're a die hard Star Wars fan, it might be worth the annoyance. If you actually want to be able to use the mouse without having to babysit it, you might want to look at something else. For a 'gaming' mouse, it's completely unreliable.Pros:- Magnetic battery cover makes swapping the battery far easier than some of their other models.- Interchangeable faction plates.- 12 thumb buttons for easy access to your character abilities.- User selectable color for the scroll wheel and dock.- Lightweight and responsive.- Comfortable for people with larger hands.- Good battery life.- Quickly (in theory) change from wireless to wired mode when the battery gets low.Cons:- Synapse software is buggy and unreliable.- Frequent radio disconnects between the mouse and base.- Cable connections for the mouse and dock are extremely tight and often do not align properly, risking damage to the connectors.- Placement of two mouse buttons directly behind the scroll wheel make them virtually unusable.- Options in the Synapse settings that apply to other hardware, instead of the currently selected device, that mislead the user. If you select the mouse from the menu, you should only see options available for that device, not items that are exclusive to other hardware that aren't present on that machine.I'd probably have given this at least a 4 of 5, if not a 5 of 5, if the synapse software wasn't so terrible and the radios stayed connected. The lack of any sort of product forums where one could conceivably look for information also contributed to the score. A Facebook page is a poor substitute for a support forum.EDIT: 05/16/2013After several failed attempts to get competent customer service with regards to the constant disconnects and loading issues, I've about given up. They don't bother to read the tickets, and tell you to do things you've already stated you've done, and in some cases that they've asked you to do at least once already.I've since downgraded the review to 1 star of 5. Stay away from this mouse, it's not going to perform as advertised, and even at the 60% discount I got as an Amazon special, it's an overpriced paperweight. I've since gone back to using my original 'Legacy' Mamba, it's far more reliable
Good idea, flawed execution

I've tried this mouse for a couple of months now (since SWTOR was released) and while there are many things about it that are neat, overall I've felt disappointed. The design of the mouse seems solid, but there aren't any extra side panels that you get on other Naga products to customize the fit. The LED backlighting is nice, but since it's under my hand most of the time, I rarely notice it.Where the mouse fails mostly is on Wireless lag and software. For whatever reason, when in wireless mode, the mouse gets a considerable amount of stutter and "skipping" across the screen. I've used a Logitech G700 in the same position for almost 2 years with no wireless problems. So, if the skipping gets too bad, I can just plug it in, right? Well, yes and no. The software execution is horrible, in that switching between wired and wireless causes all of my custom button settings to go missing. The only way I've found to restore them is to reboot my computer, which I hardly ever do. This is unacceptable under any situation, let alone in the middle of a heated PvP match! And finally, due to the lack of customizations on the shell, my short thumb has a heck of a time reaching the front row of buttons. Since this is a fit problem, not necessarily a design problem, I'm sure it's fine for those with larger hands. All in all, not a terrible mouse, but if you are looking for a wireless gaming mouse, I can't recommend this one due to lag. And if you have small hands, forget it as well. I guess that means large handed wired-only customers might find this to be perfect... :P

I was a little hesitant to purchase this due to some other reviews, however I've found that this mouse fits my hand surprisingly well, feels quite durable, and the side function keys are very accessible and for mmo use, very helpful. Now admittedly it does take a fair amount of time from box to game, I would personally expect that I would be encouraged to upgrade firmware, but that updates would be optional and a product should work right out of the box, but being that I have to spend time mapping keys the way I want them i expected some delay, just not that long of one.the mouse is plastic, just like 99+ % of all other mice, the plastic feels thick enough and the colors/feel of it reminds me of those old and extremely durable star wars ship toys that everyone remembers from their childhood, it has a very small sheen to it and just seems to look right to me, that is not to say the top part looks anything like the images on amazon, which look very metallic, this one looks more plastic than metal, but in a good way.I will admit it would have been really cool if the emblem was on a white piece of plastic with a color changing led behind it like the wheel, instead of yellow piece of plastic with a white led behind it, here's hoping they offer a set of red and blue or green emblems to better fit alignment choices.as to the important part function, thus far the mouse has been a dream everything is as one would expect from a Razer mouse you have control over everything and the buttons on the side are very well located for my hand.Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, in fact I already have.Of course all the usual disclaimers apply, as time goes on I'll post more in depth any pros/cons, but thus far very happy with my purchase!

This mouse is super fast, and very responsive. comes with an amazing interface that lets you customize everything from how fast the cursor accelerates, to the sensitivity of movement. For gamers you can set multiple button pushes to one key, even has the ability to set the time between each press. You can also save multiple profiles for whatever your needs may be, and can change between these profiles on the fly. I read other reviews stating the mouse was uncomfortable, and small, this however is unfounded. The mouse is very smooth and comfy, and as a large man, the mouse fits perfectly in my hand. Well worth the buy.

Let me start by saying I genuinely do love this mouse. There was even a feature I wasn't aware of when I purchased it. As it turns out that particular item is also a reason I'm not giving it a full 5 stars. The feature I'm speaking of is the ability to use it's cord (that goes to the recharger) as a direct plug-in to the mouse. This allows you to use this mouse as either/or wired or wireless mouse. Now what I did not like about this mouse is that it would just stop functioning when in wireless mode during game play to do updates. Very randomly at that. For that reason I'm giving it the 4 out of 5. It is this reviewers belief that products like this should come with an installation disc that is fully ready to go without needing constant updates. Opinion? Yes, it is. I believe in it though. My plug-in devices such as a mouse (even a gaming mouse) and keyboard should hardly ever require updates. So, it's both boon and bane that they seem to be right on top of wanting to update this product. That said, in wired mode direct to the mouse I've had zero issues with this. This also sort of defeats the purpose of having ordered a wireless mouse too though. It's probably something common to Razer products as I'm a first time user, but something possibly worth noting if you're the type of gamer that only wants updates installed when you manually allow them. That lengthy bit of banter out of the way I absolutely applaud Razer for making this a fully plastic mouse. Ok, there's some rubber on the mouse wheel but that isn't a big deal. With other mice I've used they've started putting that rubber stuff on for hand grips and it gets sticky in no time. This is a non messy mouse! It responds very well and all the fluff enhancements are pretty keen too. From adjusting the led light color on the base and wheel to swapping out the Imp/Rep symbol on the mouse.Even if you don't play SWTOR I think this mouse is the perfect geeky addition to your PC for a Star Wars fan!

I've had the SWTOR Naga for about 4 months now.The good:- Option to use it either wireless or wired is awesome; I enjoy the flexibility.- It feels well constructed. I've heard a lot of complaints about Razer products from people who say they feel fragile or flimsy. To each his/her own, but I feel like if I had a home invasion I could brick someone over the head with this mouse and keep using it. The snap-on battery access panel and the interchangeable snap-on Empire/Republic logos have never once even felt like they wanted to come off on their own.- The 12 specialty keys on the thumb side take a lot of getting used to, but if you play a lot of MMOs, they're a godsend. You can also map them to whatever you'd like in single-player games. After a month or so it'll feel like second nature, and you'll come to miss having them if you have to use another mouse.- The sensitivity and acceleration settings are, of course, completely tweakable, and the response time and precision is pretty impressive. The bad:- The battery life in wireless mode isn't ridiculously long, but this mouse doesn't sacrifice any response time to save battery, so I sort of expected it. If you're looking for a wireless mouse with a long, long battery life, this isn't it.- The mouse feet are extremely slick, but they will quickly lose their condition if you use it on a rough surface. I would recommend a mousepad. I bought the SWTOR gaming surface and it made a pretty huge difference in the feel of the mouse.- The mood lighting can be changed, but only the lights on the scroll wheel. I was a bit disappointed; I was hoping that all the lights would be able to change color. All in all, though, I would recommend this highly to an MMO gamer. I used a Razer Lachesis for 4 years before this and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it after all that time, either. I've had good experiences with Razer.
