Model M Sound System

Attractive design, great sound, mediocre radio reception. I find this stereo great for listening to classical and contemporary vocals. Artists such as Sharon Robinson, Anjani, Sade etc sound really great as do symphonies. Rock, Country, Blues etc sound good but there are cheaper and/or alternatives that sound just as good if not better. IMO-sound is too clean for noisy music or music that relies on a strong mid range. I don't listen to rap. heavy metal or opera so no opinion on those formats, but this stereo is not real strong on bass. Bass and treble are adjustable, but the change is minor. Volume can get quite loud with no distortion, but occasionally, despite volume setting, an odd reverberation comes from the left speaker which seems to have no direct cause. Usually lasts just a short time but not quite what you expect, particularly at MSRP. If radio is of primary importance, there is an unusual antenna connection "Pal"-I plan to get a converter soon and hook up an F type antenna to see if reception improves-as equipped-my two favorite stations--one about 25 miles to the west the other about 20 miles to the east barely come in adequately. Changing from stereo to mono does not improve reception as is the case with many radios. I was able to obtain one of these at a good price--and for the price I paid it's a good buy--at full price I would have other recommendations. However-for classical and artists such as those I mentioned, particularly the sound is exceptional and makes up for the negatives. Once I'm able to hook up a different antenna if radio improves I will update!
